New to AMD - FPS abysmal
Hey just got myself a AMD HD7950, launched TS for first time, and frames are below 30fps :S they were higher on my GTX 480 which is odd!
Anyone else use AMD hardware with tips? Im on a single display 23" 1080p HDTV
This is loading GCR free roam with couple of steamers in and one of the scenarios witht he Wartime Scotsman DLC.
Yet it flies through BF3 on Ultra haha

Did you completely remove the nVidia drivers beforing installing the new card?
Have you worked through the options in the Catalyst Control Centre?

Hey GP,
I believe I have removed all Nvidia drivers via control panel.
I have not touched anything in CCC, using just ingame settings
Thanks !

Re: New to AMD - FPS abysmal
i use an aging HD5870 with the same size monitor (@1080P) with settings maxed apart from AA reduced a tad & view distance on high (not very high) & mine flies along very nicely indeed.
i would have thought that your HD7950 would be a fair bit better than my "old" card.

Re: New to AMD - FPS abysmal
AMD cards have some features nVidia cards don't have--adaptive anti-aliasing for one so it'd be worth firing up the CCC to see if anything you don't recognise is enabled.kirkheath wrote:I have not touched anything in CCC, using just ingame settings
It's a bit old now, but http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html is a handy guide to the various options.

I though the general view was that CCC anti aliasing Vsync and other settings don't work, I never managed to get them to do anything with TS2013 anyway.

Hi Kirk,
One thing I would suggest, go to the AMD Catalyst Control Center, click on Image quality/3D Application Settings and set all to "Use application settings" ?

Hi, when you changed from the nvidia card, did you also uninstall the physx via control panel & install the version in the TS2013 install folder?

Hello,
No I didn't think to try that. Would that make a difference?

Hi, some of the later Nvidia physx versions only work with nvidia cards - the version in the install folder should work with both AMD and Nvidia cards

Re: New to AMD - FPS abysmal
I have an HD6970' which is set to application settings. I have limited the frame rate to 40, which it can hold on all routes bar the odd few places on WCML. When it was on unlimited I could get over 70 fps but also drops to mid 20s, which spoilt the effect somewhat.

Hey there Mike, what was done specifically to set all settings to application controlled? I wonder if I would benefit to clear the drivers and reinstall them completelyMikeDu wrote:I have an HD6970' which is set to application settings. I am not near my pc at the moment, so working from memory, under Gaming, 3D in the Catalyst Control Centre, you will find tick boxes for Application Preferences; other than that, I did nothing.

Re: New to AMD - FPS abysmal
So tried altering graphics abit. and It appears it really does not like to mix FXAA with SSAA type of AA aswell. So change overall settings to High which uses just FXAA, and Frames will then average around 40fps. Yet I could easily attain higher on the GTX480. Has anyone else had similar results? Am I still missing something.
Should I try booting up in safe Mode. Wiping all drivers and then Re-install latest CCC ?
I also seem to result in poor FPS on LA Noire if anyone has played that. Yet BF3 will actually produce 100+
