I bought the original 4MT on Steam. I'm quite keen to buy the new improved version, especially at the introductory price.

If I do, I have to buy it directly from DT and it will then overwrite the original version. So far so good.

However, next time I verify the files, Steam will overwrite the new version with the old one and I'll have to re-install the new one. You've got to be kidding!

Surely the solution would be to have the old and new versions as different locos. That way I would end up with two versions of the same loco but at least I wouldn't have to keep reinstalling the new one.

Bob.
Why does it even matter to have to re-install after a verified cache? Plenty of people do it with armstrong powerhouse addons. Its not like your verifying cache every single day or weekly or if you are then there is honestly something seriously wrong with either the computer your using, installation in general or a bad internet connection which cannot pull the content off the steam servers without corrupting the files.

Plus the solution as you put it, creating two locomotives in turn does not ensure backward compatibility and in turn would require scenario adjustments and other 4MT related modifications to be updated creating more hassle than simply ensuring it the new version is the same file structure which wouldn't cause any issues.

Nore do I see what is so hard over clicking the mouse a few times and letting the package manager install the .rwp or that is to slow to actually unzip the .rwp and move the files quicker

For £3.99 for an already great model is a bargain, now throw in all the extras that have been added for this version and my wallet is open and ready!

Any plans for the 2-6-0 version DT?

Quite a worthwhile purchase. Not only getting all the ts2012/13 stuff, which includes a nice subtle in-cab firebox glow you got the rain in windows to in the nasty weather but also some prototypical features to in the inclusion of the southern region disc codes and togglable lamp system, both are controlled via ctrl + 1-6 and ctrl +shift+ 1-6 for the rear facing ones. The SR noted 4MTs also correctly have discs and no lamps and vice versa for the other region 4MTs which are represented in the others.

Added bonus is the original Mark 1 Sub coaches now come in southern railway green colours and also camine liveries on new purchase so now you got stopper consist appropriate stock in appropriate liveries for the various places the 4MT worked at.

Texture work also seems to been improved quite abit and it looks abit more detailed and abit more weather worn on certain parts of the 4MT which is quite nice. DT also seems to have darkened the maroon to fit with the general darker colour which has been seen with RSC coaching stock which I think looks alright to.

4 scenarios are included, 2 for woodhead and 2 for Somerset Dorset.

It does require kuju folder to be enabled for the coupling so requires that when creating scenarios.

Sound hasn't changed, its the same as before but wasn't any mention of that changing but DT mentioned the other day in facebook comments 3rd party might be doing something for the 4MT, so who knows.

Overall for £3.99 you really cannot complain and with the added features + new liveries for the coaches its even worth a full price purchase in my opinion, it feels pretty much brand new, especially having on the fly lamp and disc changing aswell as the various ts2012/13 stuff included.

Quite a facelift all things considered and good job by DT.

You should work for DT - you sold it for me, and I wasn't even thinking about getting it xD

Thanks  :P I hope in general my information is helpful towards folks when I've posted for this and various other DLC and gives people the information nessessary to make a informed decision when it comes down to purchasing or not, DT certainly doesn't lack information on their product pages and I certainly wouldn't accuse them or any other DLC makers of such, but I think its easily beneficial to have a rundown from someone who has purchased outside of the creators.

Well in the end, not bothered if people agree or not on the "worth buying" parts, but credit where credit is due DT has done quite a considerable makeover to the 4MT and even added new liveries to the coaches which DT could have decided to charge for aswell but they didn't and even though it installs to the pre-existing old versions folders I'd consider this practically a brand new product at this point.

Plus, at £3.99 its really nothing, could say that is a pint or 2 at the pub, but then that is gone in one night, while this is pretty much future proof now untill the next version of the simulator/change in the graphics engine. :drinking:

I decided to go for the 4Mt too, and treated myself to the WCMLN scenario pack with a nice juicy 87 to boot! Look forward to the update of this loco. :)

I went over there to look at some screenshots and then noticed the sale items. 4MT, Bullied Pacific and Class 40 pack all purchased ina heartbeat! They all seem like fantastic models and the extra coaches that are included are a very nice touch. I'm now dreaming of Matt's finished SVR (take your time Matt) and running 80079 - can't wait for the pull away from Sterns on that route!

I think DT make a very positive contribution to TrainSimulator and are very open and customer focused. I can see the need to charge a small upgrade price for this and will be making my purchase shortly. Probably better value than my recent upgrade to Windows 8!

I'm having to select the Kuju folder on Woodhead so that I can couple up the New 4MT to coaches without getting SBHH. Looking in the engine bin file it still seems to have the KUJU couplings, is that right? Or am I missing something?
