Compatibility with MSTS
Is it planned/expected that OR will eventually have the capability to run all activities in the same manner that MSTS does ?? So far we are all very grateful for the massive improvements with graphics and FPS but it is frustrating coping with the anomolies regarding the behaviour of AI traffic in activities. For example not all AI appears in most activities, lines are sometimes blocked by AI traffic and AI traffic does not keep to a timetable due to not stopping at stations. I do not in any way want to critisise the brillant work already done by those in their spare time to bring OR to the current level,it is merely a question of intent for the future.
Re: Compatibility with MSTS
Hi,
In the end a decent accurate train simulator which is the ultimate goal of OR is an ___EXTREMELY___ complicated box of tricks requiring on the part of the developers a very wide ranging knowledge not only of railways but the physical world as well. This is the real difficulty in train sim development. The developement staff is limited both in time availible and very likely the knowledge they have immediately on hand so research and experimentation is the word for the day.
Patience is required and will be rewarded

Re: Compatibility with MSTS
I imagine that OR will never exactly duplicate the performance of MSTS because:
1. The OR developers don't have access to the MSTS code.
2. To exactly duplicate the behaviour of MSTS would be to perpetuate its faults and shortcomings.
When OR Version 1 is released I expect to have to tweak existing activities to achieve the original intended scenario.
I've been very interested to see the number of errors in existing MSTS files that OR has highlighted. After correcting these I've been surprised that I've not noticed big changes in the way some MSTS acts and vehicles perform. MSTS must have a very comprehensive system of workable defaults for badly specified / missing parameters.

Re: Compatibility with MSTS
As above, I have used OR to check out various activities running on MSTS. I am in the process of correcting parsing errors in various .eng files as I come across them. However some of the other errors in MSTS files are not so straight forward and will correct them when OR or my knowledge expands.
