Union Pacific Big Boy V2.0
RSC have or are about to release Big Boy V2.0. This is a new model not just an upgrade. It comes with some scenarios for Sherman Hill. If you are like me and own the previous version you will have to pay for this one.

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy V2.0
I think there is hope that the previous owners will get it as a free update:

Would be nice, the announcement is a bit vague about this being an upgrade/update or a new asset. Let's hope for the bestmichaelth wrote:.....I think there is hope that the previous owners will get it as a free update... Michael

Not according too there Facebook page. It says that owners of the previous model will have to pay for V2.0 as it is a completely new model.

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy V2.0
From Facebook
The Union Pacific Railroad’s Big Boy 4-8-8-4 steam locomotive is undoubtedly the beast of American railroading history, and this epitome of heavy haulage is now available for Train Simulator. Significantly remodelled and re-skinned, the new Big Boy comes with a number of challenging scenarios for the Sherman Hill route. In the early 1940s, Union Pacific Railroad (UP) sought to build a locomotive capable of hauling heavy freight trains across Wyoming without the need for double heading and helper operations over the 1.55% gradient of Sherman Hill and the Wasatch mountain region. Adaptations of the previous Challenger Class locomotives showed that larger fireboxes, longer boilers and more driving wheels achieved their aims. What followed was the monster Big Boy with its articulated wheel configuration, 83,000 litre water tank and 68in driving wheels.
In 1941, Alco Locomotive Works delivered 20 Big Boys and another five were put into service in 1944. Although rarely run at such a speed, the Big Boy was capable of an 80mph top speed and towards the end of their life were regularly hauling more than 4,000 tons up the Wasatch gradient unassisted. The last revenue service by a Big Boy was in July 1959 and eight of the original 25 locomotives have been preserved in the USA. The Union Pacific Big Boy is available for Train Simulator in the famous UP black livery with all new locomotive physics, TSX effects including raindrops and headlight illumination, and new smoke and steam particle emitters. The Union Pacific Big Boy V2.0 is a separate product to the RailWorks Big Boy 4-8-8-4 Add-on. The Sherman Hills Add-On (available separately) is required to play the scenarios included with this Add-On.

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy V2.0
That's a bit rich. I've had both the Challenger and Big Boy packs for nearly two years and they've never worked properly since I've had them. Both run out of water after about 20 mins running and I've not completed one scenario yet because of this. I've emailed RS.com about this and been promised a fix would be coming...
So the fix IS finally coming and I now have to PAY for it?
Not a chance.

As it's a completely different developer... you can't expect the new developer to hand over free copies to all those who bought the model by the first developer
That would be like asking BMW to fix all the old Leyland Mini's

Why couldn't the steam loco sit down? - Because he had a tender behind.
Re: Union Pacific Big Boy V2.0
firstborn, I am getting your point and I fear you could be right but in that case: what does "updated from a previous version" mean? As far as I remember, it is RS standing policy that early customers receive updates free of charge. More than that, wouldn´t it be clever to update the previous version for free and give all those early customers an incentive to buy the Sherman Hill route?firstborn wrote:As it's a completely different developer... you can't expect the new developer to hand over free copies to all those who bought the model by the first developer

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy V2.0
Probably should go look at the comparisement screenshots on facebook, they have reworked the model, textures, added steam effects and TS2012/13 features to the locomotive aswell. I'd say its pretty obvious why the current version customers are not getting a free copy, as its a full new version, not a upgrade, just like how Meshtools 50 was, no one got free upgrades to the new version from the old on that either.
Also the original developer handed the Big Boy off the RSC, so RSC can do with it what they like at this point.
Incidentally, no one is forcing you to buy the new version.

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy V2.0
Have you tried those engines after 2013 update? There was a bug in game that wasn't allowed ai-loco's in same consist to fill their boilers. That has now been fixed, as i was able to run woodhead's 8F-scenario to the end whitout out-of-water problems. I haven't tested K4-scenarios on horseshoe curve, tho, but i assume they work as well. Both Challenger and Big Boy are essentially 2 loco's for the game, hence the out-of-water problems.Fodda wrote:That's a bit rich. Re: Union Pacific Big Boy V2.0
I will be buying this new version of the Big Boy whether it is a free upgrade or not although, some sort of discount would be nice for owners of the previous version.

However, but the smoke/steam still looks bad. Strange flashes and often seems that locomotive is pushing it ahead. (youtube video 00:15)

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy V2.0
No I haven't tried them in TS2013 as I'd become sick of the same old problem. But if RS.com have fixed the multi-boilered train bug with TS2013, then I suppose I'll be able to stick with my original buys and play with them.
My main argument was that I'd originally bought a dud that was unuseable and didn't expect to have to pay again for a working model. IF the original Challengers and Big Boys now DO work in TS2013 then all well and good, I can use them.

Errr... I never said thay did. Try reading my previous post's last line again.Incidentally, no one is forcing you to buy the new version.
Re: Union Pacific Big Boy V2.0
Does this update solve the running out of water issue ? because I already tried a career scenario with big boy in TS2013 and it did not work out..
