The WCML in MSTS...

Post by bonan »

Hi!
I asked the same questions about 3 years ago, and back then there was a section missing of the WCML in MSTS. With the closure of EuropeanBahn it seems like we will never get the whole ECML for MSTS, so I have turned by attention towards the WCML again. So is there still missing parts of the WCML?

London - Warrington Bank Quay is covered in Mersey V4.
Carlisle - Glasgow is covered in the Clasgow-Carlisle route.

But what about the central parts of the WCML? :)

Hi Bonan, WBQ to Lancaster and Lancaster to Carlisle are both covered in Community CD's,
the first is in the North-West England V2.1 and the second is in the Northern Rail Routes V6.
The NWE V2.1 is well worth the money and has loads of activities with it both passenger and
freight and covers a huge area, the second covers the mainline through from Lancaster through
Penrith to Carlisle as well as the Settle - Carlisle and the coastal run through Barrow in Furness
and Workington.

As far as I can tell the NWE2.1 is a freeware route?

Also, when I read the NWE3 thread, it seems like the route is being extended all the way up to Carlisle and down to Crewe.Which means that there will be no need for the Northern Rail Routes V6 (which by the way contained the word "fictional" in the description, a word that I am highly suspicious about in MSTS-related situations... :evilbat: ) when the NWE3 is released? :)

NWE 2.1 is indeed freeware and is best acquired as the route CD via our CD ordering unless you fancy doing a marathon download session.

NWE 3 will be released when Terry is happy with it. Work is continuing on it and has been for some time.
Kindest regards

Hi Bonan, I think you might also need the following file to complete the Download Version.
 Click to view more informationNWE_V2.1_Patch#1 [786895 bytes] - NWE_V2.1_Patch#1.zip
File ID: 15561 Date: 10 Nov 2006 - 5652 Downloads

I see there are two versions in the Library V2.1 and V1.0 so only download the later one.

With the closure of EuropeanBahn it seems like we will never get the whole ECML for MSTS
It would seem that there were no further plans to extend West Coast Express beyond Birmingham, and if Ken had wished to do so, he could have put the Rugby-Stafford section in with the Cross City part. But as always with Route Building, time is the enemy, and this route will have to wait a while at least, it seems, for a publishable version. It depends on how much of the route you want, and what you would define as the WCML, but to my way of thinking, WCML means Euston-Glasgow. All of this route has been covered by Thames-Mersey, NWE_V3 and Glas2Car.
So if you fancy a bit of route knitting, here is a golden opportunity, but don't expect to get permission to upload the results!

I can confirm that NWE 3 trackwork extends from Basford Hall (S of Crewe) up to Metal Bridge (N of Carlisle)
Trackwork has been finished for some time now, but I'm still finding the odd tweaks to do here and there as I write activities.
Scenery is still not complete, though :(

NWE3 Release date? With a following wind, around Easter 2013

So the WCML will be drivable from Euston to Glasgow, but only in conjunction with TM, G2C and NWE3
Virtual Navvy for North West England & Metrolink.
