Re: Dublin to Cork

Post by CathalKavanagh »

Hi Brendan is there any chance you could provide me with help with the following Platform assignments;

Cork Kent

InterCity to/from Dublin Heuston
These services arrive and depart from Kent Platform 4, owing to its length and not from Platform 5 as simulated (Platform 5 is too small for the Dublin services).

Commuter to Mallow and InterCity to Tralee via Mallow
These services arrive and depart from Kent Platform 5.

Commuter - Cobh and Midleton
Cobh services depart to/from Platform 1. Midleton services depart to/from Platform 2.

On the Cork Kent to Cobh line, just passing or inbound to Rushbrooke to/from Cobh the overhead bridge and side embankment don't look to be finished, this however could just be an issue with myself if you could confirm ?

On the Cork Kent to Midleton line, services arrive and depart from Midleton Platform 1. At Carrigtwohill, services from Cork Kent arrive and depart from Platform 2. Services to Cork Kent depart and arrive from Platform 1.

Dublin Heuston

InterCity to/from Cork Kent
Cork services do not always arrive on Platform 5 as simulated. Can this possibly be changed ?

Rail Cars

2800 DMU
Is it possible for the forward and rear lights to be simulated, I note both lights display forward.

22000 ICR
Is it possible to add InterCity titles to this?

Finally;
I have to thank you for all your efforts, its truly well simulated and thoroughly enjoyable. Many thanks for all your hard work over the years.

Hi Brendan,

Yourself and HD have made a great route brilliant, the Heuston - Portlaoise section is especially highly realistic and the Cork to Cobh/Middleton is a very nice addition.

After downloading the two new files I'm still missing two bridges on the Cork to Cobh/Middleton section and a wall texture on the same section. The wall is also missing the texture in Tralee Station. These are very minor and in no detract from the route.

Also I will echo the previous poster in thanking you for all the work you have put in to this route over the years.

Thank you for the positive comments above.

I have uploaded a further small file with the missing bridges and textures. I hope that I have now included everything.

Cathal, thanks for the detailed information regarding the platforms used for the Cork services. I will in due course adjust the relevant scenarios to take account of this information. I have checked the bridge/embankment at Rushmore. I can see that I used a payware bridge at that location from the Settle and Carlisle route as it looked near enough to the actual bridge at that location. If you are familiar with using the Route Editor, you might try substituting it with a bridge that you have. If not, you could also try substituting it using the substitute function in RW Tools (now free).

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have been giving a lot of thought regarding a future project now that the Dublin - Cork route is essentially completed. I had initially considered the Belfast - Dublin route as a possibility and also the Dublin - Rosslare route. Each is just over 100 miles in length. But after considerable thought, I have come to the conclusion that either of these two routes would be too ambitious. On the basis of my experience with Dublin - Cork - which took almost exactly 10 years to complete (I began the route shortly after the original Railworks was published in 2007) - I figured that it would take at least four years to build either route - and possibly longer. In the end, I have decided on a much more modest route - the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) system. I began working on this route two weeks ago to get an idea of how much progress I might make. To-day, I completed the 'easiest' part - the trackwork - and will now begin the signalling, to be followed by the stations and finally the scenery. Being a city route, scenery will be quite intense and I will need to build a lot of Dublin landmark buildings. The total length of the route is about 35 miles.

I will post updates as I make progress, but rather than using this thread I have decided to open a new topic titled Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) to which I will shortly post the first screenshot of the route.

Brendan,
many, many thanks for all the work you have done on Dublin to Cork. It was the first route I got after buying RailWorks2 way back when, and I've followed all your updates meticulously. Now you've chosen to do the DART and that would have been my preference too - simply because it is electrified. Good luck with your new project - I shall follow progress with bated breath,
best regards,
Moi

Cathal - I can provide a bit more information on some of your points

Platform 4 is the normal platform but Platform 5 is also used, as seen here. It is however generally when something else requires Platform 4 (Belmond and long RPSI services)

Correct, but generally only because Platform 4 is occupied for circa 55 minutes in the hour!

Cork services do not always arrive or depart from Platform 5. It is the favoured platform but I have departed from all bar 1 and 10 in the past couple of years. The way the timetable is currently written is an arrival at xx:55, so P5 would be occupied with the next departure.

1800 Heuston - Cork one evening last month on Platform 2. The 1700 this evening went from 4, with the 1625 Heuston - Limerick going from 5

Or the current Double Delta logo

I must download the latest version, and am glad I could help in a small way
