Kuju - Standard Van - It's "bugging me"
Hi All
I haven't got this missing Assets in my RSDL folder and I have cleared cashe & verified "Umpteen times" as it is used on heaps of Scenarios.
Kuju\RailSimulator\railvehicles\freight\standardvan\default - copy\wagon\standard_van.bin
I have been substituting it previously but I would really like to know where this particular Asset is available from if possible.
Can anyone "throw any light" on this please.
Regards
Mike

Re: Kuju - Standard Van - It's "bugging me"
Mike,
I have it but have no idea where I got it. I've compared the Default and the Default - Copy folders and they contain exactly the same files with exactly the same date stamps.
To save having to substitute, why not just right click on the "Default" folder in the StandardVan folder and choose Copy, and then right click on a blank part of that folder and choose Paste. That will give you a new folder called Default - Copy.
Bob.

Re: Kuju - Standard Van - It's "bugging me"
Hi Mike,
I thought I'd just check my "Assets" list for this item and it is not present. I have downloaded an enormous amount of Routes and Assets and thought that may be someone had made a copy of the standard van and then included with their Package, but that does not seem to be the case. So I would suggest that at sometime in the past, you have downloaded something that I haven't or you may have made a copy of the standard van yourself (perhaps when changing something), then forgotten to delete it afterwards and then when creating Scenarios (or using RWTools) you have inadvertly used the 'copy' version instead of the original. As Bob has suggested you can make a new copy of the van file or swop it for the standard van using RWTools in the Scenarios calling for it.

Hi Bob & Rob
I did what Bob suggested and that fixed things up OK for me.
I was just curious as to where this originally came from as it is used in quite a few Scenarios.
Regards

If you post which scenarios it'd be possible for someone to do a quick check and try and narrow down where this copy came from.

Hi gptech
Nearly all the Scenarios incuded with West Somerset Railwy V2.5 (File ID 28546) required this Missing Asset.
Hi bdy 26
This missing Asset is not in the Freeware Wagon Pack - I did check this out before I posted.
Thanks for you interest - It is really appreciated.

Re: Kuju - Standard Van - It's "bugging me"
It doesn't seem to be any of the vans available standalone on UKTS.
It sounds to me like someone's made an identical copy of the standard van (i.e not made any changes to it) and then packaged it with a scenario which they've uploaded. They would never have known they were using a copy of the van since the RS/RW/TS editor doesn't display multiple assets with the same display name. They'd still see "BR Standard Van" in their editor list but the asset in question would actually be referencing the files in the "Default - Copy" folder rather than the original (presumably the editor looks at the dates and only displays the most recent asset).
Anyone who then downloaded the scenario would find themselves with a new Standard Van asset in their install called "Default - Copy" which would then be displayed in their editor, which they would then use in scenarios without realising it was a copy, and which they would then in turn distribute to others without realising. A nice snowball effect kicked off by one person not paying attention to what they were doing.
The other possibility is that it's a reskin which someone has created without renaming the folder and that it's either available elsewhere or it's been pulled from UKTS.
I don't have this asset in my setup but then I don't think I've ever downloaded a scenario.
Cheers,
JB

Re: Kuju - Standard Van - It's "bugging me"
The Standard Van is a default core asset, it should be in your Kuju asset folder in the Freight section along with your Milk Tank/Cattle Truck/LMSBrake Van, etc, etc, etc.

Re: Kuju - Standard Van - It's "bugging me"
The Standard Van has been a default item in the Kuju folders since the very first release of Rail Simulator.
It seems to me that Railworks is getting into a right old mess with all the reskins and reskins of reskins flying around. No wonder RS.com are rearranging things, and introducing the Workshop and the new EULAs!
regards Ted.

Re: Kuju - Standard Van - It's "bugging me"
Chaps, that's not what we're talking about. Everyone has the BR Standard Van in their core installation - we're trying to track down a rogue asset that's in a folder called "Default - Copy" and which is required by multiple scenarios. Yes, you can just make your own version by copying and pasting the Default folder, but that doesn't identify what the original asset was or where it came from.

Oh, yes, sorry, I must clean me glasses and look more closely at the OP in future.

If it's just scenarios for this route that are affected, I'd recommend deleting the copied version and editing the scenarios with RW Tools, substituting the copied van with the default one to eliminate any possibility of you propagating the problem with this spurious asset.
EDIT: I've dropped Pectin a pm asking if he can throw any light on the matter, though he's probably now received pm's from us all....
