TS2013 Sound Cutting Out when Loading Tiles
Hello,
apart from the issues that people using Creative soundcards encountered - the one with bad 3d positioning and special effects issues, there is yet another minor problem that impacts me also as a realtek on-board card user: occasional sound cutting out apparently present only when the game is loading tiles. I never experienced this in TS2012... OK, there was something similar, but it was only happening when FPS was very low and it was extremely rare for me. With TS2013 I get this with most locos and routes every 20-40 seconds and it is very distracting...
Reported this to RSC, the result is they are passing it to the dev team, but who knows how long this is going to take...
Does anyone else experience the same and possibly have any solution? Is this also present on Creative or Asus cards?

Funny you should mention this because I started to experience this last night for the first time when I was playing the Sherman Hill route. I agree, really annoying. I have a creative card. A sound blaster XFI.

Yes, I posted about it in this thread: http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 1&t=127521. I've got Realtek onboard sound as well.jstange wrote:....Does anyone else experience the same and possibly have any solution? Is this also present on Creative or Asus cards?

Yes I get exactly the same with onboard AMD sounds. Sound cut-outs every 20-30 seconds, escpecially on Sherman Hill. This certainly didn't happen with Rail Sim 2 or 3.
Re: TS2013 Sound Cutting Out when Loading Tiles
I have this problem too with Win 7 64 bit, creative SB Xfi. Have contacted RSC and been told it's been passed to the development team. Particulary bas on Sherman Hill but present on most routes.

Re: TS2013 Sound Cutting Out when Loading Tiles
Thanks a lot for all the replies, guys. Glad I'm not alone. I would like to kindly ask all those that do have this issue to report it to RSC. They will give it higher priority this way.
Now, any ideas how we could try to remedy the situation ourselves? What I did: tested several versions of openal32.dll file from the windows folder, no change or even instabilities. I tried giving higher process priority to railworks.exe, i tried to prioritise realtek sound process. No effect. I was thinking of getting process lasso software that according to its description should be able to adjust IO priorities, perhaps this could do something...
Another idea is to modify sound buffering, I remember doing it for one linux game some time ago where I experienced choppy sound as well. If anyone would have an idea where to tune this in TS2013... ?

Can confirm I am getting this too with onboard sound. I noticed on a class 37 scenario on London to Brighton that the cab would go from super bright, slightly darker then it would go darker still and at that exact point the sound cuts out momentarily. Then the cab went super bright again and the process started over. Was nothing to do with shadows or time of day, it was on a permanent cycle throughout the scenario.

Re: TS2013 Sound Cutting Out when Loading Tiles
I don't experience any sound cut out's when the tiles are loaded or any other sound related problems with 2013,I'm running with an Asus Xonar.
On another note, the tile stutter is allot smoother than previous versions of RW.

Re: TS2013 Sound Cutting Out when Loading Tiles
Interesting to see a separate topic opened up on the specific issue of sound drop outs in TS2013 which has been mentioned in posts in the other active topic this week concerning sound issues with TS2013 generally. The sound drop out issue is exactly the problem which has afflicted me since a fresh clean install of TS 2013 and for which no resolution is currently apparent. I have this problem with both the onboard sound on my Asus board and also with a recently installed Asus Xonar D2X all now installed in replacement for the on board sound - latest drivers off the Asus web site 6.12.8.1794. I am running Vista 32 bit. No problems at all with either of these set ups when running my back up copy of TS2012 so clearly there must be a Railworks problem here which unfortunately seems to be affecting a significant number of users. A bit surprising that this did not show itself and be dealt with during testing prior to release…….
I have just sent an email off to RSC support so we live in hope that if they have received a significant number of support requests on this topic they may give it some priority.
Perhaps Daz would be kind enough to advise what drivers he is using for his sound card and what settings he has in the Xonar D2x Audio Centre. I have tried various options here and also swapping the various versions of OpenAL32.dll as reported elsewhere but all to no effect.
I do not know what is going on here but there is clearly a software issue which needs addressing. It is irritating in the extreme and very much spoiling the TS2013 experience as far as I am concerned.

Peter

Possibly a fragmented hard-drive (or worse still a hard-drive on it's last legs) is slowing the data from streaming in quick enough
Windows de-fragment tool is notoriously useless - try something more specialised like Perfect Disc: http://www.raxco.com/home/home-premium.aspx

Why couldn't the steam loco sit down? - Because he had a tender behind.
Re: Re: TS2013 Sound Cutting Out when Loading Tiles
I have an Asus Xonar DX & run 2013 from an SSD & still get occasional stutters. Not often & a split second in duration but definitely noticeable since the upgrade. It does seem to be linked to tile loading or viewpoint changes however.firstborn wrote:Possibly a fragmented hard-drive (or worse still a hard-drive on it's last legs) is slowing the data from streaming in quick enough

Re: TS2013 Sound Cutting Out when Loading Tiles
Although defragmenting can speed up tile loading and therefore may have some effect on this, I doubt it would remove it completely. Moreover no other games incl. TS2012 have this issue, at least not on my PC and laptop (both with realtek on-board audio).firstborn wrote:Possibly a fragmented hard-drive (or worse still a hard-drive on it's last legs) is slowing the data from streaming in quick enough

Re: TS2013 Sound Cutting Out when Loading Tiles
Agreed - it is not a fragmentation problem. I have installations of TS2013 and TS2012 on the same hard disk – sound problems with 13 but not 12.
So not just as simple a fix as this I am afraid. In any event I do think there is a modest but noticeable improvement in frame rate/stuttering following the upgrade.

Re: TS2013 Sound Cutting Out when Loading Tiles
Although I've been suffering with this issue, I've just run a complete scenario on WCMLN and not had a single issue with sound. Bizarre, maybe it's confined to certain routes? Definitely had it on Lto B yesterday.
Re: TS2013 Sound Cutting Out when Loading Tiles
Hi all, i've just started playing ts2013 after an absence from the game for a few months. It did an automatic upgrade. I tried carlisle express scenario that comes with the pendolinos, and i was impressed with the improvement in frame rates. (no sound problems strangely enough on WCML) . This evening i tried two scenarios with the 86s, on WCML. Noticed the above mentioned problem almost immediately. I felt i was sure that i'd not noticed this in TS2012, so i came on here for a look. I have an Asus xonar soundcard too. I will be contacting RSC because this is a real pain. Detracts from the improvements that they've made.
