Hi, I have seen references to teams of scenery designers, am I correct to assume that a number of people can work on a scenery project together and then all their work is combined, or have I missunderstood. If I am correct can someone please point me to a "how to"
Cheers

Re: Scenery by Groups
Scenery objects (models) are usually prepared using various different modelling programs completely separate from RS. Therefore they can be prepared by a number of individuals each one preparing their own building, bridge etc. These should output from the modelling program (e.g. 3D Crafter, 3D Studio, Bender etc.) in a format that RS can use called .igs with separate texture files in .ace format. These are then incorporated in the the route model using Asset Editor and World Editor. It is the route model where a degree of control is necessary. The way we work on the IOW Network route is to have a "master" copy of the route which is the responsibility of an individual team member whilst they up-date it. They then export the route model and pass it on to the next designated individual. It is important only to have one "master" which is the one that is changed. That way changes and up-dates are not by-passed or omitted.johnrossetti wrote:Hi, I have seen references to teams of scenery designers, am I correct to assume that a number of people can work on a scenery project together and then all their work is combined, or have I missunderstood. There are other ways of managing route files such as individuals working on specific scenic tiles which are then incorporated into one route. But this is complex to manage and runs the risk of failing.

Thanks Mark, I had hoped there was a way of 2 or 3 people all working on a route together and then combining them, as there seemed to be a layout combining programme I thought it might be possible nowdays.

You might find http://rw-transpennine.blogspot.co.uk/ interesting then, though it is seriously in need of an update. There's an upcoming livestream which you might also like to 'attend', see the thread at http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 4&t=126277
