Re: Update announcement
Well the simulators engine in its current state/form, which struggles to run on my 4.0GHz Core i5 with only half the amount of what I would call a realistic amount of rolling stock and running AI to simulate a realistic working Railway, no amount of dumbing down is going to make TS2012 run XBOX360. They'll have to do the opposite and completely overhaul the game, probably completely re-write the game engine so that it is multi threaded then there is a possible chance it may run on the 360 or PS3.
I sincerely hope now that RSC, after their little DLC creation frenzy, will now work on the game engine to improve it. We have lots of DLC but a simulator which can only run a fraction of it at one time. Without improvements I cant place or run even a half of all the DLC or freeware I have installed in a scenario.
But I do appreciate RSC's efforts to improve the simulator albeit in small steps so far and the game and models have improved greatly since I started with the original Railworks.

Re: Update announcement
As someone who has been using a modified gamepad as a control desk with RW for over a year & I see there are some other people with some amazing control desks using A/D converters, I am delighted that it will be officially supported rather than having to rely on Matts or CADDEs driver + joy2key to get them to work. No offence to either party - they were much appreciated.

Re: Update announcement
In all fairness, not all of us have to use multiple sets or installations, though I agree that working on improving how the game handles resources is of paramount importance---lets have everybody able to run the TSX engine and do away with old 'legacy' coding for starters. Support for gamepads won't appeal to everybody, but as a gamepad is substantially less expensive than a Raildriver it has to be welcomed----don't dismiss the idea that enhanced input device support may bring benefits for those who use Raildrivers too.chrisreb wrote:Would allow us all to run far more routes/scenarios and not have to have multiple asset sets....

Isn't that a bit of a contradiction?gptech wrote:lets have everybody able to run the TSX engine and do away with old 'legacy' coding for starters

I don't think so....unless you're looking at it differently from me. Of course if you mean that the *new* TSX engine should still be classed as *old* and somewhat *legacy* itself I'd agree with you.hertsbob wrote:Isn't that a bit of a contradiction?gptech wrote:lets have everybody able to run the TSX engine and do away with old 'legacy' coding for starters

Re: Update announcement
personally i can see the gamepad as a good aid, noticed in the video the pad was being used to pan around the cab, leaves the mouse free to move cab controls

Re: Update announcement
Absolutely agree with this! Handling resource issues and allowing a MUCH larger number of assets and routes should be of paramount importance. The game engine is struggling badly now with SBHH errors due to lack of internal resources. With the addition of Steam Workshop this will only potentially become a larger problem as users download more and more rolling stock.chrisreb wrote:I would really like them to fix the SBHH which by consensus seems to be caused by a limitation on the assets a scenario can load.
Would allow us all to run far more routes/scenarios and not have to have multiple asset sets as one route after another falls over because you added something required by another route.
Everything else is simply a 'nice to have. Without a solid foundation the game engine will simply start to fail more and more regularly. Even RSC's ever increasing list of DLC's will begin to tax the program as it currently stands.
Cheers.

Re: Update announcement
Taxi for Mr Jackson? When are RSC going to take TS2012 seriously and think 'Sim' not 'Game'.

Re: Update announcement
Hi all,
I think they are trying to appeal to a wider market, just like "Trainz".
I pads next perhaps.
Kind regards
mike

Re: Update announcement
I read and re-read this but fail to see how this could happen. Surely, it would require that RSC and PI work towards a common target and that's never happened yet. I'd like to believe it could happen but, in another thread, I was warned about holding my breath.gptech wrote:... enhanced input device support may bring benefits for those who use Raildrivers too.
As it happens, I have a wireless XBox controller ready for use but I'd still prefer that the next piece of DLC I buy will not disappoint me by finding (like the 4CIG) that RailDriver won't communicate with the brake lever.

Re: Update announcement
In some point in history they must have been working together as otherways we would have no native support for Rail Driver at all. Though if I remeber correctly, it was not easy and took quite long time.OrpheusRocker wrote:I read and re-read this but fail to see how this could happen. Re: Update announcement
If the game will work with a standard Windows compatible device (gamepad) it's reasonable to assume that PI will be able to use that standard in their drivers. Whether they will, or indeed want to is another matter, as is whether a Raildriver can actually make use of it.OrpheusRocker wrote:I read and re-read this but fail to see how this could happen....gptech wrote:... enhanced input device support may bring benefits for those who use Raildrivers too.
After the cost of a Raildriver, the big 'put off' for prospective buyers is the (perceived) difficulty in getting it to work, gamepads can be bought quite cheaply and setting them up is as complicated as plugging them in---no surprise then if this new 'feature' proves very popular.
