444 or 4CIG??

Post by TElsmore »

Hello everyone.

I'm in a pickle! My good lady has kindly given me permission to purchase a piece of DLC, bless her heart! At the moment though i am driving London to Brighton, so i am only really interested in getting the class 444 or the 4CIG, but i don't know which one! Help me out guys, it's tearing me apart!! Which one would you go for?

Cheers

If it's not to be out of place on London - Brighton it would have to be the Southern 4-CIG as 444s don't appear on that route. However having used both my preference is for the 444 as it seems a more 'polished' product.

Bit of a 50/50 this one, realistically the 444 will only be AI between Clapham and Queenstown Road. Maybe at Brighton if subbing for a 450. You can run the 4CIG anywhere on the BML without it looking out of place. You may be a bit restricted into what era you want to play with.

Also the 444 is a good sub for the GatEx! :D

I'd go for the the 4CIG but only if your good lady will allow you to add 4.99 to get the Armstrong Powerhouse sound pack. It adds so much to the train. If you get the newer Southern version it comes with some nice scenarios for London to Brighton.

Either that or wait a few days, I'm sure the summer sale is due and you might be able to have both ;-)

If you do get the CIG Terrone, bear in mind that most reskins will only work with the original £11.99 421 pack. For now anyway!

Thanks guys, i'm still none the flippin wiser! :o

Richard, i was going to get the £11.99 421, there's something about the Southern version that doesn't seem right to me, it doesn't seem 'finished'.

Steve, i am really tempted to wait a few days and see if there is a Steam sale, but i am not convinced that RSC are even going to take part in it!

I'm like you Terrone, I think I'll hang on and wait to see if there is a Steam sale on this week and get the original 4CIG, there are 3 reskins in the UKTS library for this version already, so, I'll have 4 trains for £6.99, shweeeeet.
I'm not a fan of the 444 anyway, and as I have the 450, I won't lose any sleep in not obtaining it.

Be the 4CIG for me, Rich's sounds make a good model even better, I can't really comment on the 444 but I think it uses the same cab and sounds as the 450? Not impressed by the sounds of the 450 at all, but if there is a sale I may pick the 444 up or the VEP?

As a former slam-door commuter 4CIG and AP sound pack; see if you can charm Mrs Terrone and get the VEP too; the AP sounds work on that too!

Probably the 4CIG for me on balance. It lacks a passenger view and the cab is the weak point (only basic functionality by current standards and there are some very strange shadow effects in TS2012, particularly if the sun is behind you). The exterior model is great though and the AP sound pack makes it a great drive.

The 4Cig has been running on the London - Brighton line since they were built in the 1970's(?) until they were withdrawn.
A 444 has never been along the Central division AFAIK.

Also the reskin has a Green stripe under the gutter whereas on the Real 4Cig units it was white.

If you have not spent your money yet I'll hang in there for a week or two just to see if steam has a sale as it's around this time of year that the summer sale takes place.

I'd go for the CIG any time, plus the AP soundpack which in my opinion finishes it off properly.

I don't have the 444 but, as has been noted above, for realistic scenarios you're rather limited on the BML. The 450 is adequate for me on the PD.

The Southern CIG reskin here on UKTS is brilliant, by the way - don't use your hard-earned cash on the DLC version.

Early 60s for the initial batch allocated to the Brighton line I believe, second batch early 70s initially built for the PDL.
