Camera view button 4

Post by johnrossetti »

I want to use the camera button 4 for videos, could someone please advise me on what dictates the position of the camera, is it random ? or is there a script ?

What I'm trying to achieve is the remove the "overhead" view (as from a bridge) as I only want "pass by" (as from a fence or platform)

I have worked out how to adjust the camera height but not the camera position.

Interestingly it seems to vary from route to route, some routes seem to be overhead only as Woodhead, some mainly pass by as San Bernadino, so do you set the camera positions when building the route itself. (by accident)

Finally does anyone know what the cinematograph camera icon does yet ?

Cheers and thanks for any answers.

Only usable in scripted tutorial scenarios made by RS.com.

Afternoon all

If there is a solution to this, I would also be very pleased to hear about it - it is one of my bugbears as well - a Kuju "feature", present even in MSTS.

Another irritation of this shot is the way in which it is cut short after the passage of the loco. I am probably wrong, but IMHO it should start n yards before the arrival of the loco and finish n yards after the passage of the last vehicle - in other words, it should take the length of the train into account.

There is something satisfying about seeing the whole train trundle past and disappear into the distance - I suppose it can be done with F8 up to a point.

Where is George (of MSTS Bin fame) when we need him?

Best wishes

Phil

From my experience, it appears to be constrained by lofts - usually boundary fences, walls etc at the side of the line. If there isn't much room, you'll get the overhead view. The more space you have around the line you are driving on, the greater the likelihood of the more visually appealing "drive past" being shown.

If you press 8 after pressing 4 you can at least position the camera where you want - not a solution, but it is a workaround.

John (& Phil) - you might find this post of mine interesting as it describes a mod that goes some way towards what I think you're looking for.

Alan, I think your right, that makes sense and explains why some Scenery only have overhead views, thanks for confirming my thoughts.

Stuart, great advice, I need a good dose of malt and I will read that carefully, many thanks

To change distance, go to assets, kuju, railsimulatorcore ,cameras and change step ahead to whatever you want, mines at 250.

Yes - a bit of an indigestible post I guess - probably why it got no replies first time around! I was grumpy about that for weeks :-) Seriously though - it's an easy edit to make and the resulting camera is far better in my view for watching trains go by than any of the standard cameras. So grab that malt and stick with it.

Now that sounds great. I'll be sure to try it out and have a play as soon as I can. You're not the only one with tumbleweed posts: http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 3&t=124010 isn't that far behind :D

Good afternoon everyone

Thank you for the replies - interesting points.

I've taken up Sammy's suggestion for locking the External Camera, although I've put it on Key 7 (the Yard camera position) - I just have to remember to use it!

Keith (lemberg) - are you referring to the before/after distance in the TrackSideCamera files? Do you know what the Near and FarCameraOffset parameters refer to?

Best wishes to all

Good stuff. Try using it in combination with other views - e.g. position yourself with camera '8' or camera '2' then go to the new camera to lock the position and pan seamlessly and automatically as the train passes on its way.
