Superelevation troubles.

I have succesfully managed to get cant on one of my curves but i have kinks and gaps in some places.

Can't figure out why

Anyone have any advice? I did read the thread about superelevation but couldn't seem to pinpoint the problem.

If these kinks are what you appear to describe them as, it would appear that you haven't laid your curves using easements. All superelevated curves must be laid with easements to work.

I'm not sure what my track rule blueprint looks like. How do I look at it?
I'm using the Settle-Carlisle track rule.

I have placed the curves using easements. Most of my track I have placed using easements. If I press the spacebar, will I be able to see which sections of track were placed with easements?

Yeah, but you'll be able to see the joins easily if you fly along the track.

I'm not sure I'm following what you mean by kinks?

It's where the curve meets a straight. Both rails look twisted. Hopefully it's fixable because the cant makes my route look alot nicer.

I'll post a pic of the kinks when I get home.

Is that what you're referring to?

If it is, then tick the superelevation box in the right hand flyout for the straight section and you should be sorted.

No, it's a looks a bit different to that. The track is joined, there isn't a gap, it's just twisted. I'll have to post pics I think.

I'm also wondering if it is possible to select two tracks at once with the select tool?

I think it's actually the same thing, but your track isn't split like mine.

I have a sneaking suspicion that it may because you've come out of an easement curve into one that's been laid without easements, and you're seeing the join between the two.

That's my latest hunch anyway.

Yes it is, but the track selection tool is wayward at the best of times, so you might find that trying to select both tracks takes longer than doing them individually.

When higliting the section yo have cant go behond the bend on to the strights and then tick the box for cant this should work if not easments maybe the answer.

No you don't, you simply have to make sure that you highlight every section/ribbon of track (i.e. the area between two red triangles) that you wish to apply superelevation to and check the SE box and this will apply it to that whole section.

Callum has already said his track is laid using easements.

Bob, I will try to replace the straight section with an easement section and see if that was the problem.

I also have another track diverging from the superelevated curve. Could this cause any problems?

Yes, any points on a superelevated section are a bit of a no-no - the "break" also doesn't necessarily appear at the place where you would expect it to either

If you know Wigan NW station, you will know that when driving south into the station there is a line diverging into platform 4. The points just happen to be on the superelevated curve so I have no idea how I will get round it.

It might have to be bye bye superelevation?
