Which headphones

I turned up my pc speakers a little the other day and WOW what a difference, but since I live in a duplex (eg semi-attached) I dont want to annoy the neighbours at all..

I've been looking at different headphones, up to say $300, but want something that will be best for train simming (in particular good bass)

Can anyone give any suggestions?

I find them excellent on Railworks, Armed Assualt 2, IL2 Sturmovik 1946 etc as the mic is also brillant.

I do suggest looking at Sennheiser gear and also look at Music & Home Cinema sites and so on for other very high quality headphones. Especially if you don't mind one with a mic.

Hi I would just like to advise you about headphones. They can damage your hearing and there is no cure. I have an ear condition that I would not wish any one else to have. It's horrible.

I agree entirely. I've had a hearing aid for 3 years now and I'm getting a second one in June for the other ear. There is no other option.

I would echo what The Tazman and Jimmychoo have said, but add that keeping the volume sensible shouldn't cause you any problems.

I agree, keep the volume sensible and headphones can be fine, as with any electronic device they just need to be used safely...

• The best way to check the volume is okay is to play for a while and then immediately talk to somebody as you would normally. If they say you're talking louder than normal, you've had the volume too loud.

• Take a break for at least five minutes in every hour of any audio-visual entertainment, headphones or not.

• If you find your ears ringing after you take them off, you've had the volume too loud.

• If you hear ringing while you have the headphones on, that's just the audio loop on the Train Simulator 2012 main menu.

• Make sure you have some method of adjusting the volume on the fly, without needing to pause the game and go to a menu of some kind or switch to the desktop. You can get a good inline volume controller from any half decent electronics store.

• Well-insulated high-quality headphones make all the difference in terms of safe headphone usage, less background noise coming in means you can keep the volume lower without missing out on any detail.

• For the sake of safety, don't use well-insulated or noise-cancelling heaphones/earbuds if you're out in public, use more open earbuds that allow you to hear your surroundings.

I don't really get to enjoy the sound in RailWorks often, the Laptop speakers don't sound great anyway but I use it in the living room where others are often viewing TV. I have found that earphones or headphones irritate me considerably after only half an hours use. I have very mild tinnitus I believe , I usually only notice it when it suddenly stops

I love my Philips SHP8900 headphones. No mic, but I never play anything that I need a mic for.

Fantastic sound quality, extremely comfortable even for longer periods of wearing them.

They are the open type, so some sound leaks out, but I think that this is not only part of what makes them sound great, it is also what makes that their sound doesn't hurt your ears.

And they are very big covering your entire ear, so they don't hurt the ear after you have them on for a while, and they don't press your skull either.

Absolutely fantastic.

I'm only not sure if they're still producing them, but online they might still be available.

I have a set of cheap headphones that aren't very comfortable at all, they squash my ears and it's like having my head in a vice,

but I'm stuck with them for a while as my daughter bought them for me as a Christmas present,

My last set where very good, they had a vibrating function in both ear pieces,
which was great for driving diesels like the cl 37

I have Beats by Dre headphones, sound quality is brilliant.

After what everyone has said about the damage to your hearing, I will keep this in mind when listening.
