I've just bought a new pc (i5 2500k, 8gb mem, nvidiaGTX 560ti, windows7 premium), purely to run TS2012 and to use my old pc for asset creation where I use 3ds max 2010 and photoshop cs5 extended. The reason for this decision being that 3ds max 2010 won't run under windows 7 unless I upgrade to Ultimate (a lot of money).
However, I'm having no success in transferring my igs and ace files from one pc to the other. They are not networked.
Is it just a question of copying them over into the source folder?

Sure about that? If your using Home Premium, Ultimate doesn't offer much in the way of functionality unless you're wanting to run in a business environment; ie: a domain.

Re: Running 2 pcs
Nothing in that 12 month old thread to say you need Ultimate to run it. I can't think of any program that requires a specific 'level' of any version of an operating system, in the case of Windows 7 the functionality to run programs is all there in the version you have, Pro and Ultimate just add features more appropriate for corporate environments.grahamje wrote:This is where I got the idea from.

By 'doesn't work' do you mean you can't copy the files or the copies don't work on the other PC?grahamje wrote:Doesn't work!!jivebunny wrote:In a word, yes
Re: Running 2 pcs
Having created an object, the texture applied, in 3ds max material editor, has to be an 'ace' file residing in my source/developer_ _ _ _ _/textures folder which is on another pc and so when exporting the object the igs file can't be built because the texture path can't be found.
Does that make any sense?

Re: Running 2 pcs
Cant you change the path to point to the local pc?
Re: Running 2 pcs
Sorry I've taken so long to reply but here's what I've done.gptech wrote:Cant you change the path to point to the local pc?
On my low level pc;
Made a simple cube in 3ds max 2010.
Made a simple texture in photoshop CS5 and saved as an ace file to my desktop.
Applied the texture to the cube using Kuju TexDiff shader and saved as a igs file to my desktop. Bear in mind I couldn't save the ace file in my source folder because it's located on an my high level pc.
I then copied both the ace and igs files to my networked shared folder, which made them available on my high level pc, where I copied these 2 files into the 'Texture' and 'Buildings' folders respectively.
I opened the asset editor, rt. clicked the asset to open the scenery blueprint editor, hit the preview button and got:-
File not found c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Source\Grahamje\Addon01\Scenery\Buildings\elephant house.ace.
I think before applying the texture to my 3ds model, it has to be saved in the texture folder but i can't see how as it's on a different machine.
