Narrow Gauge Loco's

Ive downloaded some of the locos but all the ones ive looked at so far appear to be 2x models.

Im making a route that is mainly standard gauge but has narrow gauge alongside in places...

Ive used Xtracks for the NG and Standard and would like some NG static consists and traffic in places..

Could anyone point me to some suitable NG Locos please...

There is quite a large selection "truescale" NG stock on this site (providing your on about 2ft gauge.

Sp672 has made stock to both scales and I have released a fair amount of "truescale" patches as well. Used with the original 2x stock, then these patches will give you correct scale stock.

The only models that I know which run on the 3' (Xtracks) are the WLLR Earl (File ID 3918) and stock (4000, 4076) by Paul Holmes.

My TS stock is to the 2'4" standard, and I don't know if I can be arsed regauging it - in any case, if you're only doing static consists, it would probably look OK. The TSNG track (1819) is compatible with XTracks in any case, so why not use that?

Blyth is also to the diffrent scale.... which makes it compatible with the Earl but nowt else.

Hi, just dropping in for a quick visit... Blyth is actually made to ordinary scale, so it will run OK on Xtracks and it is compatible with all normal rolling stock and scenery.

I quit MSTS after last summer because I got fed up with modelling and route building - too frustrating and too much like hard work. I never managed to finish any Southwold rolling stock.

But, and this is a big But, I may get back to modelling.... except that this time I would use Canvas 3D since the transparency problems in MSTS got the better of me, I didn't like the results of the many hours of work on coaches with large windows that blotted out the landscape.

I don't think I will get back into route building though, not unless I see some very major improvements in stability and user-friendliness.

Anyway, sorry for ranting, fingers crossed that I can scrape together the courage to get myself a copy of Canvas and knock out a couple of coaches and wagons.

Shame you stopped. Blyth is a really nice loco! How do I get it to work with normal track. the only version i have which shows up drops between the normal running rails.

Do you mean that it is possible to gt it to run on standard MSTS track (ie Talyllyn Route scale?)

Hehehe I know what you mean about the route building, at the moment i seem to have lost everything bar the standard routes! All because of a rather nice system crash the other day which i thought i had managed to cure!

You need Xtracks narrow gauge for Blyth, the Southwold railway was 3 ft gauge.

As I said, if there is any interest I might try Canvas 3D - I have all the rolling stock drawings, they are not very complicated. Easier than my Dutch tram stuff.

Someone else can build the actual route, though - I started on it but gave up after struggling with the terrain, especially the river. It also didn't help that the rails had a tendency to completely disappear at certain viewing angles

The line was only nine miles long, so it looked like a nice small project - and it would be, were it not for the blasted software

Do you have track plans etc etc... Ive just lost all my own routes so at the moment Im on something of a blank canvas and would have a look at it.

I have the Middleton book which has track plans for the two stations at either end (Southwold and Halesworth) - the rest were just halts, or only had a passing loop. I could email you a couple of scans.

I did digitise the line into TSTools, I probably still have the files somewhere as a backup. I also produced the Southwold station trackwork using Xtracks.

It would be excellent if you would consider it, just the thing I need to get me kickstarted into finishing the rolling stock!

Will you be at the Basingstoke show by any chance? I plan on going on the Sunday, it is only 15 miles away from me. I could bring the book and we could have a chat.

Track plans would be wonderfull. I would seriously consider it if i had enough information, which im happy to reasearch to some extent...

No chance with Basingstoke, as I live in Malvern (nr Birmingham) and work weekends!! Sorry

Here is a website with some info. At the bottom is a link to more pictures and a general map. The entire line fits easily on one sheet of the OS 1/25,000 map, which shows how small it was! (OS Pathfinder 966). The line has long since disappeared but it is easy to reconstruct using the indicated earthworks on the map, filling in the rest using the contour lines and common sense.

Do you use TSTools? I could dig out my files for you.
