Hi.
I do agree with an earlier poster re Northern routes, dont get me wrong i love Woodhead,and Settle Carlisle, but you can only take so much of the dark skies, rain,men in cloth caps looking very miserable,it conjures up those dark satanic mills perfectly, surely its time for RSC to turn there attentions to the West Country and get a bit of sun into there lives,can you imagine the RS platform figures,in swim suits(well maybe not)with happy holiday smiling faces,instead of those ,nearer my god to thee looks :D
But seriously JT Bristol- Exeter was great but stopped short of some of the most iconic railway views in the british isles, Starcross,Dawlish,the run to Plymouth,then over Brunels magnificent Tamar bridge and on into Cornwall,finally rounding Mounts bay and into Penzance,now i know this is not easy,i have been working away on the Penzance to plymouth section for over two years,and am still only half way!
But with as someone has said, with the might of RSC behind projects this can be acheived must sooner,time to brighten things up i think.

I'm looking out the window, the greyness of the English Channel right now is only matched by the sky, and it's just as wet looking upwards! I could see Starcross if I went up the cliff - or rather I probably can't given how miserable it is.

You are right though, no matter what people think the Westcountry doesn't end at Exeter ( or Bristol :P ).

how about some of the great little welsh routes? we already have tallyllyn, and VOR, but how about something narrow gauge from RSC, like Ffestiniog or welsh highland? that would be really interesting to see :), or even the Cambrian coast, in my opinion one of the best routes for MSTS.
My Mind is like a Welsh Railway, One tracked and Dirty.... :P

Totally agree with this, as a resident of Plymouth then I too would like to see the "sunshine state" of Devon and Cornwall given more coverage. The routes that are available for this region, although exceptionally good, manage to completely avoid all the hotspots and most scenic and famous sections!! The sea wall at Dawlish, the infamous Devon banks, Tamar Bridge all missed! Maybe it's because the famous and scenic sections are just too hard or costly to create? Compared to the dark satanic bleakness of Woodhead and Settle, the China Clay route is a good example of how vibrant, sunny and fresh this part of the UK looks, perfectly recreated in the game but just needs to be extended by 50 odd miles in either direction!!

Are you sure that Devon or Cornwall are being avoided Jimmy? After all, both steam and modern versions of the Falmouth route and the South Devon Banks (including the sea wall at Dawlish) route are available... :wink:

I think the modern version of the Falmouth branch is an urban myth isn't it?

There's plenty down south and plenty up north, but not an awful lot in between at the moment

Some nice networks would be very fun. Something based around Birmingham New Street could be great. Include a 323 with it and you have a massive network with a wealth of opportunity. Could even include the tram system.

I would like to see some more 50s and 60s period routes as well. Something similar in scale to the original S&D with the massive operational variety.
If only all problems on the big railway could simply be TAB'd past...

I meant the RSC version of the route Steve. :D

I agree though - as far as UK routes go, the Midlands, East Anglia, the South East and Wales (apart from the narrow gauge lines) are not particularly well served at present.

How about the Easingwold Railway? Two and a half miles to a small terminus, the junction station being Alne on the East Coat Main Line.
Plenty of expresses thrashing through for those who like to watch the trains going by, and then a nice little poddle to Easingwold, do a bit of shunting (mixed train) and then poddle back for more 'locospotting'. Not too many bespoke buildings to build, not too much scenery to place.
Just need an industrial 0-6-0 Saddle Tank (Bagnell?) and an ex North Eastern Railway 6-wheel brake third coach with compartment doors marked 2 2 and 1. All other stock used being main line common users.
Got to be a winner??

but I agree the Devon & Cornwall area would be nice too with the seawall at Dawlish and the Brunel's Royal Albert bridge over the Tamar.. 8) ..yes I would go for that. For MSTS there is a route over the Brunel Bridge I remember and South Devon Banks covers large parts of Devon. Have not driven on that one for a while. I believe the seawall is included in there too.

It has been mentioned time and again, but I don' think it would hurt to mention it again. How about a Highland route? S-C and Woodhead have proved that such terrain is possible within RW, maybe not so much for the West Highland Line, but certainly for the Highland Main Line (Inverness - Perth)

Yes what about the Midlands where all the work was done, no time for shiney green engines with polished brass up here, there was work to be done, no holiday specials except for Wakes week Derby or even Ambergate to Buxton would be great to see, and on the plus side like Woodhead it can't realisticly be modernised. The sun is shining up here by the way.

Good choices, both. I think RS2012 would be able to handle the West Highland Line too.
