To start with, your computer is plenty capable, hardware wise, to run train sim 2012 on reasonably high settings.
May I suggest turning the shadows to off, they turn the game into a slideshow!
I have an iMac, with a 2.93ghz i7, 8GB of Ram and a 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5850 (this being the laptop version however), but believe it or not, the things I can play is unbelievable. I play train sim 2012, FSX, world of subways and a variety of others via boot-camped windows 7 x64.
When I say this, I suppose I am not the only one but the WCML is just unplayable for me in TSX mode. But in legacy, I get sharp graphics, and 30+ fps!!!
I would get in touch with RSC, and tell them your specs, for what I've seen this game is still awfully optimized!
Play a game such as Mod warfare on high settings then you'll see the difference!
Thanks,

Try turning scenery detail down a bit? I run on 9. I have a much slower pc than you and I get around 25 fps on wcml on highest settings? Is your pc quite new? Just spend time tinkering with the setings but in theory you shud be able to run on full settings, have multi core selected at the start. Defrag your pc at least once a week I use Auslogic defrag which is free also turn your virus scanner off.

That shouldn't be needed as the user is on Windows 7, it's actually meant to be a debug tool related to Windows XP hence why it is placed in that section of the options but this is open to some debate at the moment. However, for this user, it may make things worse rather than better.dean1986 wrote:Also have multi core selected at the start
30fps is not needed if you want a continuous stable experience though, even a constant 20fps with no dropoff is sufficient.
The first thing I would concentrate on is to run with no AA at all then in game, turn the shadows off, keep the scenery detail at 10 to avoid losing assets and have the following:-
Particle Density - Medium
Passenger Density - Medium
Shader Quality - Medium
View Distance - Medium
Terrain Texture - Medium
Water Quality - High
Object Texture - Medium
This should provide no issue for your system and will give you a benchmark to work from. Gradually then start turning things on with shadows to low at first, whilst raising each other option until you reach your potential limit.

'Thank you for contacting the Railsimulator.com customer support team. It is advisable to tick multi core in order to take full advantage of your processing power, your graphics set up is a matter of individual preference.'
That's the reply I got from Railsim Support a few weeks ago to clarify whether using the multi core option, and also Crossfire ie two graphics cards in tandem, made a difference. Not really any the wiser with that response. On my set up, it appears to have a positive impact on some routes, but not on others, and in some case appears to make things worse. It would be helpful if Railsim actually specified whether multicore is supported in sim, as other people say they have heard different. So, you pays your money.......

HUH.......'Thank you for contacting the Railsimulator.com customer support team. It is advisable to tick multi core in order to take full advantage of your processing power, your graphics set up is a matter of individual preference.'
I was under the impression that this box was only to be ticked for debugging/analysis reasons.....
Are RW saying that "choose Multi Core within the OS " or does it mean "tick the Multi Core Box at the RW settings screen "
Im confused

Re: How to get stable 30 Fps on PDL + WCML
Ive never got any satisfaction playing with multicore. I usually turn shadows off and put on 30 frame rate lock and I get a decent performance. I suspect if I alter the settings on the RW options page Id get even better, but broadly its more than good enough.
Re: How to get stable 30 Fps on PDL + WCML
The question I asked RW was whether ticking the multicore option in RW start up was needed to take advantage of multicore in the sim. I took the answer as meaning you should tick the box, but as I said before it seems variable depending on the particular route/scenario I'm running. If the sim is cpu biased as opposed to using the graphics card more then ticking the box would make sense, I presume, but I'm not a computer expert, and this subject has been endlessly debated. RW seem to be saying you should tick the box, but experience seems to show that it may not be the best thing, depending on your set up/route and scenarios played.tofwings wrote:HUH.......'Thank you for contacting the Railsimulator.com customer support team.
