RW System specs

Hi to the Technical guys,

I am obviously losing out on my computer with the facilities offered with RW 2012.
i am looking to buy a higher spec machine and have been interested in a Medion brand desktop.

Could you please advise me as to the best specs I need to look for in order to get the best from the
advanced features of RW 2012.

I would be most grateful for any advice.

Little update to the thread grahanje has pointed you to--nudged the settings up to SSAA2x1 and dropped Water quality to low. This has dropped average frame rates to the low to mid 20's but visually the game is better. Game play's smooth enough, for me at least, but no matter what you end up buying you'll find your own compromise between performance and quality.
Just had a look at Medions web site and I'd have to argue over their choice of CPU in the gaming range---sure, an i7-2600k is a damn powerful beast but there are few games that will take advantage of the extras it offers over the i5-2500k (in terms that matter most, the i7 costs about 60 quid more than the i5--about a 40% price increase but you wont get 40% increase in game performance--and certainly not in RW) The extra cost of the i7 could be better used in other components. I'm sure somebody will come in and shoot me down in flames, which is good--the more who contribute the more you'll have an understanding of what you should be looking at
Of course arguments over the merits of an i7 Vs an i5 count for nothing if they're both out of your budget, so how much do you want to spend, and how much over that amount are you prepared to go?

I do have a good monitor etc, one point you might clarify please
I was always under the impression that on board audio was not recommended.
Take it by your recommendation that this is not the case.

If you're an audiophile then on-board audio won't be good enough; if that's the case you just add a 'proper' sound card---most motherboards have on board sound as standard, so it's not an option you can decline. If you have a monitor with a HDMI port and either decent speakers built in or a sound out port to connect speakers to, the 560 GPU would make a good choice as a sound card.

I am not an audiofile, but I love to hear the realistic sounds from the locomotives.
If the on board sound is OK for this then that is good enough for me.

When I buy a new machine am I able to load RW by installing my original disc and then verifying the game cache.
Wondered if this would work.

As RailWorks is tied to your Steam account all you need to do is install the Steam client. When you log on to Steam then you may be presented with a dialogue asking you to enter a code Steam will have mailed to you, as Steam will detect you're connecting from a new machine. Enter that and away you go!
Steam will start to re-download the game and any Steam acquired DLC but you can just stop this process and copy over the Assets and Contents folders from your old drive, once thats done verify the cache.
