Basic Route Building Tips?

Post by trainfreek92 »

Hi All,

I'm editing a route which someone has made based upon a real line, but not up to my standards, at the moment, I'm having trouble figuring out what the blue arrow is when I place a signal, there is 3 of them, the signal is a 3 aspect with a feather pointing to the left, but not sure what to do with the arrows which come out from the bottom?? Any Help?

Just to start by nit-picking... the route is not made up to your standards, while you don't really have the experience?
Not trying to be mean but... building a route is not exactly easy on any level...

Secondly... the arrows are the different routes your train can take. If there are three of them, it means you got a signal with 1 base link (link 0, the first arrow) and 2 direction links (links 1 and 2, the second and third arrow).
Link 0 tells the game where the signal is placed and where the train needs to stop when it's a red signal, so it should be placed next to the signal on the track.
Link 1 usually is the straight ahead path for the train, so it should be placed on the most straight ahead path just after the last switch.
Link 2 will be your first diverging path, and so it should be set on just after the switch on an diverging path.
Keep in mind that the arrows have to be pointing in the right travelling direction; i.e. away from the signal.

This video will perhaps guide you further on this.

Good luck and remember; if at first you don't succeed... you'll probably have to try 15 times more before you get it right ;)

Thanks for the reply! :)

Another question, when I put speed signs down, they show 0 then when I click away from the sign 90 shows, how do I change it so its the speed I want, I double clicked the sign and went to box which appears to the right but couldn't change the number in there! :s Any help??

Thanks

Hi

The speed signs pick up the speeds allocated to the track. You can change the speeds of the track by using the selection tool to select a section of track (black square icon with orange dotted edge in the top left fly-out window in World Editor Mode when the track icon has been selected in the same fly-out) and changing the speed in the appropriate field of the top right hand fly-out window. There are often two speeds shown but it is primary speed that you will probably want to change.

Have a look at the Railworks tutorial videos - search YouTube or linked off RailSimulator.com as it will answer these sorts of questions. The railworks wiki is also very helpful in getting started.

I have also noted that sometimes you need to the scenario started to allow the changes to be updated. So don't be discouraged if it doesn't show right away.
