Having trouble with Tangmere Golden Arrow loco
Well I downloaded said locomotive ( File ID 24354 ), and whenever it passes by in the #4 camera, or if I turn the camera downwards in the #5 view, it crashes. I've tested this with other stock and routes, and it's unique to this locomotive. Any idea what's causing it, and/or how it can be fixed?

Re: Having trouble with Tangmere Golden Arrow loco
Hi Kazareh,
A warm welcome to the MSTS Forums
I'm sorry that this isn't going to help you, except that you're not alone with this problem!!
It only applies to the loco with the Golden Arrow embellishments, and it's also views 2 and 3, when close up, that cause MSTS to crash to the Desktop.
As an extra note, which may help to solve the problem: in any of the views it's only when the camera is in a lineside, or closer, position that the problem occurs; any further away (eg view 4 in a field) and it seems OK.
Cheers,
Ged

Hi There,
Perhaps the additional "Golden Arrow" shapes need to be passed through Shape fixer.
Mick

Re: Having trouble with Tangmere Golden Arrow loco
Hi Mick,
Many thanks for that suggestion, but Shape Fixer came back with the message "No fixes performed".
Not knowing much about Shape Fixer, I left the settings at default - 'Report Only' and 'Make Small Polys Visible' are unticked and 'Check Animations' is ticked, Max Faces/Primitive 2800, Max Polys/Object 11000 and Min Edge size (mm) 2.5.
Sub Object 0 value is shown as 8388 polygons; this is followed by a list of numbers 0 to 33 with a number of polygons against each.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Having trouble with Tangmere Golden Arrow loco
Had this with the class 15 models when we were making them. It will be the golden arrow shape is slighlty imbedded in the loco shape. I assume its not put there as a freight amin?
Working to restore D8233, D5705 and D9531

Hi Jimmy,
You are correct! The loco already has a Freight Animation, which is the crew.

Hm.. So I ain't the only one, that's good.. Now the question is: Why..
Re: Having trouble with Tangmere Golden Arrow loco
Hi There
With shape fixer
tick the box make small polys visible
set minimum edge size to 2mm rather than 2.5mm.
If you see any lines with decimal points, have a look at the shape through Shapeviewer afterwards to see where the rogue shape is, they are usually visible.

Re: Having trouble with Tangmere Golden Arrow loco
Hi Mick,
Carried out your instructions, but there are no lines with decimal points; have also tried with 1, 1.5, 3, 3.5, 4, and 4.5mm minimum edge size with no change in display. It was only when set to 5mm did several lines show many figures
It occurs on both sides of the loco; as you approach slowly, from either side, there are visual disturbances starting from the top left corner of the display. Other than being mainly grey coloured, I can't make out what it may be.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Having trouble with Tangmere Golden Arrow loco
Alternative:
Keep Min Edge size at 2.5.
Reduce other parameters gradually say by 10% each time until SFix performs a fix. Try the new shape file in MSTS. If you still get problems then do the SFix process again at lower values.

Re: Having trouble with Tangmere Golden Arrow loco
Hi Danny,
Thanks for that, but unfortunately, it didn't solve anything. I kept reducing the values by about 10%, until SFix gave up the ghost and crashed
If it's any help, the problem only seems to occur when the 'camera' is 90 degrees, plus or minus about 10 degrees, to the side of the loco. At a slightly wider angle, the visual disturbances occur, but don't cause a crash.
Cheers,
Ged

Hi All,
I am a bit busy to check I am afraid.
Good luck
Doug
Has anyone thought to increase or move rearwards the Headout value. The original post said #5 that is pass view I do not think the loco has one (I know some do on the Tender).slipperman12 wrote:Hi Danny,

Hi Doug,
Cheers,

You're right - the loco doesn't have a 'passenger view'. I believe the poster meant the #1 view, which, when pressing the down arrow, gives the head-out forward view - this does crash on this loco, but is OK on the non-Golden Arrow version. The original post said #5 that is pass view I do not think the loco has one

Re: Having trouble with Tangmere Golden Arrow loco
Hi Ged,
Just tried the GA shape file in ShapeFix using MaxFaces 2000 and Max Polys 10000 and it performed a fix without problems. After this remember to go back to the Trainset file and delete the .s file and change the .sfixed file (the new shape file) to read .s. If this new shape file doesn't solve the problem then as I said above, try another pass through ShapeFix using lower values.

Re: Having trouble with Tangmere Golden Arrow loco
Hi Danny,
I tried the figures you suggested, but it still didn't work! So, I worked the figures down by approximately 10% as you suggested before, and eventually fine-tuned the Max Polys/Object value to 8387 (one less that the total poly size?!), and reverted the Max Faces/Primitive value to 2800. All views now work correctly - Thank You!!
I don't know whether the original poster is a newbie or not, but if he is, it is asking rather a lot for him to carry out this sort of correction! I believe it's against the rules to send him the corrected file, so I have applied a comment to the download, and hope Clive sees it and offers an amendment.
Cheers,
Ged
