Re: Oovee statement
[tongue in cheek]
I want all locos to have the new projected headlights, and I want all locos to have proper raindrops on the windscreen, then I want all scenarios re-written to be at night, when it's raining so I can see the new effects. I'm happy to wait a bit, by the weekend will do....
[/tongue in cheek]
Has anybody considered those many members with lower powered PCs?.... maybe there's the group of users who are happy not to have frame rate killing headlights on every item of motive power.
I find it odd that once again a thread has lurched into a 'I want it all upgrading for free' Vs 'if the product worked as it should when bought you have no entitlement' argument when the opening few posts were about a companys statement of intent; we've been in these discussions many times since TS2012 arrived and never come close to bringing the two opposing viewpoints into any sort of harmony---both sides have remained irascible and querulous.

crumplezone wrote:Isn't your tone towards Oovee just abit off even though you state it isn't about Oovee, your first part clearly is. I don't think Oovee have ever looked at there sales figures and thought it was pointless to develop for Railworks or have $$ in there eyes, most of there DLC releases have been vastly popular due to the technical, visual and sound being at a extremely high standard.salopiangrowler wrote:Fair enough. I must admit having to re-apply for licensing to see Abellio Greater Anglia products on the shelves will be a financial and time consuming period.
If they prefer to cater for those who to race round fictional dirt tracks in a Lorry that can be achieved in 10 minutes before bordem sets in, fine, so be it.
If they want to enter the Flight Simulator market and have some serious "street cred" to achieve over FSX or any of the other flight simulators. The thats the risk they're willing to take.
they've obviously looked at the figures and thought Railworks isnt making enough money for them. fair enough imo!. you need to expand the market. There isnt really much they need to make RW3 compatible. So expect new stuff this time next year. Unless of course the "other things" take that much priority.
to be perfectly honest. this is just another blow to the community from a company that see money signs in other areas.
If you get a set of Balancing Scales, and weigh the Ilegitimate communty with the Legitimate communty you'll find it even.
The last sentence is probably making you think, "what the hells he on about", well, at the end of the day people will go to extreme lengths to get something for nothing, even if it is "just" a fiver.
Piracy is a BIG issue in this world and nowts getting done about it. Dont think bringing MegaUpload down has helped, it really hasnt.
So just a word, Support the community, Pay for your things, This is what helps developers develop. Taking something for free when you really should of paid for it in this Community is like taking that last piece of bread from a starving child, eventually it dies.
This isnt just about Oovee, this isnt just about the small time companies. This is about the Train simulator communities across the WHOLE board.
Theres moles in every forum, Every developer website, People you consider friends, could actually be your worse enemies.
With proper piracy protecion Railworks and all 3rd party developers of Payware products would see there profits double. without it, the communities will slowly die off.
Thankyou!
Also I don't think you can easily just say "there isn't much needed for RW3 compatability", sure rain on window, cab sway and lights are fairly easy to apply, but the complexity of Oovee's DLC will further make this a longer process, the amount of testing time needed just to ensure all the new "features" of RW3 work soon adds up and this is before you even have to do two seperate types of testing, one to appease the non-TSX mode users and one for the TSX mode users.
As they have also stated with the folding of NEEA they have lost connections with them, so there 156 for example, if needed any new sounds or seeing the DMU in real life to check anything is going to be extremely differcult now which means more money having to be spent to find another company which will allow them to see the DMU and they may not be so nice on fees and hiring.
To point out, Spin tires was in development long before Oovee moved into the Railworks market and it isn't hardly surprising they want to get that done and complete, especially if you have been investing money into its development time, developing products doesn't make you money and the longer they remain incomplete the more money dissapears into nothingness and this is something people forget about the Railworks DLCs out from Oovee, they are complete as of the day of release, they still work now even without RW3 features and there isn't a single reason beyond "fan" pressure to update them as by all accounts the DLC were releases "AS IS" on day of release, it isn't a obligation for a company to update anything just because the core product was updated.
While Piracy is indeed a problem, all of Oovee's releases have gone through steam and its far harder to pirate the steam products compared to 3rd party as steam does have a somewhat better DRM than 3rd party vendors.
So I think you might want to step back from the comments protraying Oovee as the money grabbing merchants out for themselves and giving the middle finger to the Railworks community, rather than the company who has given us high quality DLC with long and expensive development times and have had to cater for a major upgrade to there core platform they were developing for while having connections in real life for there products being removed and the long stalling method of RSC launching updates(and ones which somehow don't get broken in the process of dev-> RSC -> steam).
when i said "there isnt really much THEY need to make compatible i mean they dont have much stuff that needs to be updated. Ofcourse, there is every need for TS2012 without it it'd just be a game, its more of a simulator now than its ever been.
Piracy,.... where to start,.... there is much to learn. I trawl this stuff to report it as piracy, trust me everything thats on steam is on a website somewhere. Its not rocket science to Purchase, Download, Crack, repackage and upload.
Oovee are brilliant in what they do it just soundslike they've "put the chain on the door" for the time being on the railworks front to concetrate on the other things, which is good, it give them a diverse range of product. It just seems like a shot in the face especially since they had 5 months to make stuff RW3 compatible. Yes they did the 150 working alongside Thomson but that was it. Undertandably it takes alot to do it.
Ill repeat Oovee are brilliant. They are taking on more risks though. And imo! this is financial.

Almost as bad as people insulting our friends from across the water by saying their trains should be in a scrapyard, eh?thetrainfan wrote:How many of you have seen that child's comment on Oovee's post - saying "Will you be closing?"
I really feel like saying my mind (albeit with frequent profanity) to people like that. Wasting space and people's time.

This is a shame, I was looking forward to their GNR add-on.
I bought the 156, which I think is a excellent model before the 2012 update. It does what it is supposed to do and you can't expect modifications overnight everytime RS.Com update the game! Indeed if it never happens I won't be too disappointed!
As a lurker and a very infrequent poster, but someone who would like to be more involved, I have to say these forums have been so negative lately they certainly dissuade me from wanting to be more involved. I am sure I am not the only one!!
It seems that anyone now trying to be positive gets shouted down by those whose hobby it seems to be is to be negative, if the simulator is that bad, why not just un-install it?!!
All this posturing tends to overshadow those who have genuine problems with Railworks!
Peter.

It's certainly entertaining, maybe a TV show or podcast should be made from RSCs Farcebook wall.... On topic, I really enjoy the 57, 156 and Quarry route without TS2012 stuff fitted mainly because they are realistic as they are and they don't kill framerates unlike some of the "shiney shiney" locos in TS2012....styckx wrote:The "my trains are better than yours" wars on Facebook make me laugh.Wikkus wrote:Almost as bad as people insulting our friends from across the water by saying their trains should be in a scrapyard, eh?thetrainfan wrote:How many of you have seen that child's comment on Oovee's post - saying "Will you be closing?"

Re: Oovee statement
I can't drive quarry anymore since the TS 2012 side effect of the track having a huge black stripe down the entire side of it. Looks awful. I've tried driving it and just always end up staring at the stripe in the tracks and closing the route. I've been meaning to replace the tracks on it. IOW track has the stripe on it too, while slightly less annoying, still annoying nonetheless.

Re: Oovee statement
I don't drive the route often but the assets have come in handy, plus the 04 and ZEV have come in quite useful too. There is a bug with the 04 where you cannot couple up to stock other than the ZEV since the 2012 update but you can attach the 04 to other stock in editor...

Re: Oovee statement
Well, at least Zane has released a statement, so, we all now know what's happening, although he could have worded it a bit better, it still leaves a few questions unanswered, however, it's his company/business, so, he will create content for the customer base numerically he considers will pay him the most and the FlightSim market is absolutely massive, so, nothing unusual in that, makes good sound business sense.
If he returns to our shores and updates his Railworks stuff then that can only be good for the future, there's a zillion other toys we can play with in the meantime, we'll all have to be a bit patient that's all, although, that for some of us is easier said than done.....
Cheerz. Transport Steve.

Not sure why a Train sims development should be held back because of people with lower spec PC's. Surely those people can just turn TSX off, or turn down settings.gptech wrote:

Now that's a can of worms if ever I saw one.DavidVI wrote: Not sure why a Train sims development should be held back because of people with lower spec PC's. Surely those people can just turn TSX off, or turn down settings.
I completely understand where you are coming from David and in many ways I agree.
There was an issue caused by RW2 becoming TS2012 and the whole game took a step forward including TSX off mode. Low end users were stripped of using thier old settings and had to lower thier quality of gaming. The whole point of the problem was it was taken out of thier hands, there wasn't a choice not to upgrade and keep a program they were happy running at thier settings on thier 'older' machines.
Trainsim development should not be held back because of people with low end machines but there should be some middle ground so they can continue to enjoy the hobby without having to resort to reinstalling RailSimulator.
For disclosure, I am affiliated with a third party developer however, I do not know anything about any future releases unless I'm working on them and even then, I'd be breaking years worth of built up trust to say anything about it

That was a funny picture though, with the Class 37 on the left it looked like the DD40AX was lining it up for a nice mid-afternoon snack!
