The Class 55 Update - A Community Project

I attempted this some odd months ago and gave up because I didn't like the results.. Some Photoshop experience gained later I gave it a re-try today.

The Class 55 is a beaten and neglected locomotive. Even with the big TS 2012 upgrade the cab looked like a digrace. As an avid cab driver I avoided this locomotive like the plague just because I I didn't want to sit in that artifact filled and ugly cab.

So.. I just uploaded this.. This is the first version. The `bulk' of the work is done but will most likely continue to nickel and dime it until I've touched upon every object. This is my first cab repaint I've ever completed and didn't even think I'd get this out the door today. Feedback openly welcomed (hence this thread)..

A huge improvement Bill, great work.

Some observations from photos http://www.flickr.com/search/groups/?w= ... l&q=deltic

- the seats seem to be black vinyl on most of the preserved examples. I'm not sure if this is something that happened later, and other lococs certainly had BR cloth
- The most irritating part of the RSC cab to me is the gap around the dials, whereas the panel I think should be all black.
- the top of desk on some is blue rather than white, though 22 has a white panel at the back behind the controller suggesting the whole thing may have been white as per DP1.

Entirely up to you as I suspect these things varied and weren't under the same level of official control as exterior liveries.

I note the ELR have a couple of experience days with deltics which is very tempting. If so I'll see if I can photograph it properly for you.

Yeah man, when I was looking around at cab pics, I honestly couldn't find two that were identical. Each had their own flavor and color combos from the desk, sunflower casing to the brake wheel.

The seats were my own doing. I wanted something that contrasted a little bit in the cab.. Sick of looking at black. It was that or fuzzy dice hanging from the visor.

That cab looks absolutely devine, Bill, thank you for taking the time to restore our Deltic interior, I prefer the cloth seats personally, black vinyl in the summer months plays havoc with the 'backs of me legs'.......

Great to see someone giving this tired old beast some attention. I agree with Bill in that I avoid using the Deltic purely because the cab is so poor and the cab is where I spend all of my time. My biggest gripe with the cab is the lack of 'nose' view out the front. I suppose that's something outside the remit of a cab repaint Bill? The nose of a Deltic is one of its key defining visual characteristics and the fact it's missing from the cab view is so apparent and obvious I just can't ignore it, it's like a big flashing sign saying "something large should be here but it's not" a complete immersion killer!

Thing is though, since the RW3 upgrade, I can't see anything out of the cab windows anyway, just like the default Class 37 & 47, I'll just have to sit and wait patiently for RSC's patch.

Definitely outside the remit of a repaint.. The Class 55 cab was never modeled with any nose to view at all.

The cab sits in the main model, it may be the cab could be moved so the nose was visible. Way back in the day there was a mod for the deltic cabcam that may have touch on this.

No idea how things worked then in what I assume was Rail Simulator, but as it stands, when you enter cab view, you're driving a flying box.

I did make some sounds for the deltic with decent fades in the AP style:
I never released them as I wanted to add in custom sounds (rather than just improving the fade and volume of existing sounds) but I could not source any recordings.

If someone has some recordings I would be more than happy to pick this project back up and make some new sounds to go with the new can (if Bill is up for that of course).

Superb Cab Bill. It really does look the part. Nice sounds also Jim. The Deltic does need some work to bring it up to standard.
