Black Screen on Portsmouth Direct with 455/9

Post by BVEClass395 »

Hi,

Every time I try to run a scenario or free roam on the Portsmouth Direct route with the Class 455 the following screen appears:

http://i39.tinypic.com/16hvrkx.jpg

My PC specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2 x 2.4ghz)
2gb DDR2 RAM
ATi Radeon X1600SE
22" Samsung T220HD monitor

RW is setup with everything on the lowest settings and at 1280x1024 or 1600x1000 windowed resolution, both the same result.

I'm verifying the integrity of the files using Steam, if that doesn't work what can I do?

Thanks in advance,
Ryan.

An update:

Here is a log from LogMe, any ideas how to fix the errors?
Trace cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 337 = Blueprint set not found : RSC, PortsmouthLine
Trace cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 368 = Blueprint set not found for: railnetwork\stationsigns\swl_stationsign_01.xml
Trace cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 337 = Blueprint set not found : RSC, PortsmouthLine
Trace cEntity.cpp : 1243 = Missing blueprint set "RSC\PortsmouthLine"
Trace cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 222 = Blueprint set not found : RSC, PortsmouthLine
Trace cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 337 = Blueprint set not found : RSC, PortsmouthLine
Trace cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 368 = Blueprint set not found for: railnetwork\stationsigns\swl_stationsign_01.xml
Trace cEntity.cpp : 1259 = Missing blueprint "railnetwork\stationsigns\swl_stationsign_01.x ml"
I've ran the integrity check on Steam once already & it came back 100% ok.

I've also cleared the blueprint cache several tea but to no avail.

Thanks,
Ryan.

Verify Integrity of Game Cache problem it sounds like to me.

Steam Library --> Right-click on RailWorks --> Properties --> "Local Files" tab --> Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

Will take a while but it checks your whole RW folder for Steam items its downloaded, sees if they are OK and if they aren't, download them automatically.

I'm doing that for the 4th or 5th time, once it's done I'll run RW3 and clear the blueprint cache and try again.

EDIT: The RW Help WIki has this useful information:
http://www.railsimdownloads.com/wiki/tiki-view_faq.php?faqId=2#q89 wrote: Q: A scenario wont load, and logmate lists lots of lines stating 'Blueprint set not found'. What should I do?
A: If a scenario fails to load, and LogMate is listing the following details, please see the below instructions.

Content Trace C:\Dev\RailSim\Code\DLLs\DataManagement\cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 242 = Blueprint set not found: (provider name), (product name)
Content Trace C:\Dev\RailSim\Code\DLLs\DataManagement\cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 270 = Blueprint set not found for: (location and name of a file).xml

This error is caused when a scenario contains references to content that cannot be found. The most likely cause of this error is due to the missing content not being installed correctly. To reduce the occurance of this problem, always ensure that content is installed via the Package Manager Tab of the RailWorks? launch screen. Using this method ensures that all files of the content being installed, are added to RailWorks? correctly.

To fix the problem:
1] Note down the details of the first line that states Blueprint set not found: , .
2] Select the scenario from the list and click the Edit button, rather than Play.
3] When the scenario loads, it may flag up some errors in relation to this problem, if so Click the Edit button.
4] Ensure you are in Scenario Edit mode. This is indicated by the Train Icon in the top left flyout being selected.
5] Pin open the middle left browser window, and click the ObjectSet? Filter button.
6] In the right hand flyout of the Object Set Filter, select the Provider name you noted from the drop down list.
7] Put a tick in the box next to the Product Name that you noted. This will now ensure all the content of this Provider/Product are loaded when the scenario is loaded.

8] Press the Play button in the bottom right corner, and ensure the Scenario is now playable.
I'm going to try this on the problem scenarios, will edit this with the outcome.

EDIT 2: The scenario loads, but I get the same errors come up in LogMate about missing blueprints.

I've tried verifying the cache a few times as well as clearing the blueprint cache too, can I uninstall and redownload and install the route?

This is what happens when I try and edit the scenario - the window freezes.

Any suggestions? I'm getting annoyed that I've wasted nearly £20!

Just an update:

I've deleted and downloaded/reinstalled RW again, and verified the cache using the Finland server twice (both coming back 100% complete and fine) as well as clearing the blueprint cache and yet I am still experiencing the black screen problems with the NSE and SWT 455/9.

I am out of ideas now, shall I send a report in to RS?

Thanks.

Sorry to keep bothering everyone, but does anyone have any ideas why the scenarios with the NSE and SWT 455/9 won't loadand just freeze the TS 2012 window?

Thanks

Have you checked the route and scenarios with RW Tools? This would confirm that you have everything you need and that it's all installed properly.

I used to get the occasional black screen and always put it down to a resources issue, ( not enough memory or an inadequate graphics engine ).
What OS do you have and is it 32 bit or 64 bit?
Do other trains perform OK, or is it just the 455 ?
Just a guess, but I'd say you have an under par set-up, and this could be the cause of the black screen.
I found Portsmouth direct is a bit of a frame rate killer, but I'm not sure why.
Also, have a read through the various FAQ's ? there's lots of good information there.

Ash

Not yet, but I will download it and check it.
Seeing as verification via Steam is broken, how would I go about recovering any missing files?

@Chris - my system is running Windows XP Media Center 2005 (SP2) 32 bit. My other specs are in my original post. All other Portsmouth Direct scenarios work ok except the free roam ones with the 455/9 and the standard scenarios that use the NSE or SWT 455/9.

Could it be that my PC isn't up to the job? If that's the case how come every other scenario I go through is fine including the other ones for the same route? :/

Thanks.

I can only think that the 455 is hitting your system with something it can't handle?
When you say other Portsmouth scenarios are OK, what sort of frame rates do you get?
And what graphics settings are you using for TS 2012?
2 Gb. of RAM is really the bare minimum and you might consider at least doubling it.
Having said that, you really need a 64 bit OS to make full use of 4 Gb.
Do you have any other routes or stock that's causing problems?
Do you have any programs running in the background that might be eating into your RAM?

Lots of questions, I know, but we are trying to help. :)

The BR 455 works fine, frame rate is between 15 and 25fps.
Same for the 450 scenarios.
I'm using Custom on the launcher and Low for the in game settings.
No TSX - my graphics go all screwey when I select that!
I have no other problems with any other train or route.
I can't add any more RAM as my motherboard will only allow 2gb and I don't have the funds at the moment to buy/upgrade my PC.

I don't mind questions as long as I can answer them!

I'm currently checking the routes with RW Tools, seems there are some missing assets from the Portsmouth route.
Could this be causing the problems?

You said in your original post that you got the black screen with free roam scenarios, was it the same with standard scenarios?
Reason I ask is, you now say:
The BR 455 works fine, frame rate is between 15 and 25fps.
Same for the 450 scenarios.
I'm not sure about file verification not working as I can't remember the last time I did one, it was that long ago, but reading through some of the posts, there seems to be some problems.
As I type this, I am downloading a clean install of TS 2012 onto one of my test machines that I've just installed a new copy of W8, and it is downloading OK, but very slow, ( as I would expect at this time of day. )
With RW Tools you might check for "0" ( zero )byte length files and if any are found, delete them.

It happens on SWT and NSE 455/9 free roams and scenarios.

I meant the frame rate is 15-20 fps when I load a scenario involving the 450.

How do I check for 0 byte files with RW Tools?

I checked the PDL route and there were a few missing assets:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\RSC\GuildfordDistrict\environment\terrain\decals\gd01 x5 y01.bin (Scenery Item) on tile -000025-000027.bin

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\RSC\GuildfordDistrict\environment\terrain\decals\gd05 x1 y8.bin (Scenery Item) on tile -000027-000043.bin
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\RSC\GuildfordDistrict\environment\terrain\decals\gd05 x1 y7.bin (Scenery Item) on tile -000027-000043.bin

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\RSC\GuildfordDistrict\environment\terrain\decals\gd06 x8 y2.bin (Scenery Item) on tile -000027-000043.bin
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\RSC\PortsmouthLine\railnetwork\stationsigns\swl_stationsign_01.bin (Track Item) on tile Tracks.bin
Thanks for all the help so far, much appreciated! :)

Click on the "Edit Assets" tab and select "Asset Editor", you'll see a box "Check for 0 files.
If you have any they'll come up in the bottom part of the window where you can delete them.
A good idea to check for these once a month or so depending on how much you download.
