Not sure if this is worthy of a new thread on its own, but as this issue has been driving me mad for nearly two weeks, I thought I would share it. As some of you may have read, I have been away from RW/TS2012 for a while, but I decided to join the fray again. However, a bizarre issue with Steam was preventing TS2012 from downloading fully. The game was 'sticking' on 99% downloaded and nothing I tried seemed to work.
However, I then came across a little golden nugget on Google and it has solved the problem. I can't believe how simple it was! For anyone else being driven mad by the same issue, read on:
With Steam turned off;
1) Navigate to your Steam folder (usually C:\ Program files\Steam.
2) Open the Steamapps file followed by the Common file.
3) Right click on the Railworks file and un-select 'Read only'. Make sure you select 'Apply to this file only' when the window pops up.
4) Re-start Steam and watch the download suddenly finish and the game become playable.
A 2 minute fix to a 2 week problem!
Jim

Re: Suspended download problem - Fixed!
2 points I would make.
Installing Steam to the Program Files directory is not a good idea under Vista or Win 7 since it brings UAC into the equation. Current wisdom is to install it to a separate directory well away from Program Files.
Have a look at the Microsoft knowledgebase for the issues with Read Only attributes being set across whole directory trees (especially under XP). There are some specific fixes to sort that out.

Re: Suspended download problem - Fixed!
Hi John,
thanks for the reply. I should have made myself clear from the outset. I'm a bit of a dinosaur and am using Windows XP Pro. The install of Steam to the Program files directory was done way back in the days of Railsim and both that and Railworks have worked fine for me from the outset. I have no idea why the updated version of RW (TS2012) should suddenly cease to download for me, but this fix has worked fine.
Thanks, Jim
