Re: Computer advice
Just got a message saying my computer is running slowly. What does this mean?
I have just been playing Bioshock for about an hour. I am sure this machine is faulty.
Kind regards James

James, I really doubt that it is faulty. Where did you see this message and or what program gave you this message ? Please dont talk yourself into creating a problem out of what might have a simple answer or not really be a problem at all. Btw my offer still stands if you are comfortable trying it.

Re: Computer advice
By 'message' do you mean a pop up window whilst browsing the 'net?
There's nothing in Windows that will give that sort of message, are you running any other 'tools' that you haven't told us about?
As John has stated, there's very little reason to think your machine is faulty and all you're doing is getting yourself worked up.

Re: Computer advice
The message came up as a window saying the computer was running slowly and give me the option of turning some Aero Desktop features off. It happened as soon as I quit Bioshock. So it could have been hiding under the Full screen
Kind regards James.

Re: Computer advice
What exactly did it say?....I imagine it was produced when you launched Bioshock to give you the option to turn things off to improve performance when playing the game, not stating as fact that your PC was slow.

Re: Computer advice
If this message was possibly lurking in the background... were you beginning to think to yourself - hmmph my computer seems slow or was the message completely out of the blue?

Re: Computer advice
This is what it said exactly. Unlike Railworks you can't get Bioshock from Full Window to the Desktop so it could have been there at the start. I only noticed it when I quit Bioshock. The program seemed to be running OK and apart some slight loss of weapon sound during intense battles with a Big Daddy it was very smooth. I never got this message on my old Machine with Vista when playing the game but it would slow down quite a bit when doing battle with Splicers etc.
The only other thing is that when typing in a search on Google the words sometimes do not show for about a second then all appear at once. I have encountered the same problem on the Forums with messages. The keyboard seems slow to respond sometimes. It is a Wireless one.
Thanks Guy's for your help. Much appreciated.

Re: Computer advice
Alt + Tab to switch between running programs, I assume you are using this method.
Do you get this message every time you play - or just the once? If it's running very smooth with just the odd glitch I wouldn't be too concerned myself.
Have you tried running Game Booster, some swear by it - though on your PC (if properly set up) it shouldn't be required.
Once in a blue moon I get a delay typing in Google, more annoying is typing when the cursor isn't in the box... where do all those untyped characters go? More annoying still is my keyboard insists on spelling the word 'the' as teh!
Easy test, plug your old USB keyboard in for a day or two and see if you get the same problems.

Re: Computer advice
Hi,
No I have always used the Windows Key which seems to work in Railworks. Thanks for that other information. My other Keyboard was also Wireless but the keys did not respond sometimes unless you hit them hard. I haven't tried Game Booster.
I get the spelling errors like you but I just tend to put in down to my co-ordination problems. I have never been a very good on a Typewriter
Kind regards James.

Re: Computer advice
Still more problems. I intend to sell this Machine if the problems cannot be fixed. It does not seem stable.

Re: Computer advice
James,
I think gptech has given you some sound and straightforward advice at the end of your sims thread.
Get your machine looked over by someone competent, and they will tell you whether there is a problem at all, and whether this problem is a fault with the machine or due to all of the adjustments you seem to have been making ever since you bought it.
