Soundblaster X-fi and windows 7

Post by andysenny »

Was hoping that others may have had the same issue.

In breif I am running a system with a Soundblaster x - fi Platinum. I was running on windows XP and have enjoyed the great effects using the EAX tab in TS2012.
However I have recently updated my system with a Hybrid Hard drive and Windows 7 Professional.
TS2012 is brilliant. I am enjoying far better frame rates from my system BUT and its a big BUT, I cannot get my delightful EAX effect or any other effect to be honest.
Exterior and interior cab sounds are the same. Engines pass by and sound the same from wherever you are positioned. Rail crossing bells actually drown out the engine sounds. Its all rubbish. Whats happened?
I am guessing its not really a TS2012 problem but probably a Creative/Windows 7 issue, but can anyone help.

Thanks

You're right: you need an application Alchemy to enable EAX in TS2012/RW3. It won't recognise the game at first, you will have to add it manually, pointing it to the game main folder, for instance: "X:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\railworks".

Hope that helps.

Also RSC recommend not using Alchemy because it taters TS2012, just in-case you try it and get problems running the game, it is all rather hit and miss I am afraid.

Thanks to all of you for the rapid response.

Martin thankyou for the link. I have spent the last hour looking for it! :)

Regards Alchemy I had read elsewhere that Windows 7 doesnt support it or vice versa
Smarty what do you mean by it tatters TS2012? Is this perhaps why I am now experiencing better frame rates because alchemy isnt working?

Will give it a go anyway and feedback my results.

I am using Alchemy and TS2012 without ANY issues. In fact, it works better than with RW2.

Hi Manuel, just going on RSC's official stand on using alchemy or GX settings on an Xonar. If they have fixed the issues then they need to change their recommendations? But as far as the Xonar is concerned activating it crashes the sim. When I had the soundblaster sometimes it would work other times it wouldn't, and definitely tatered career scenarios .track bin file by causing it not to load.

Its never been confirmed by RW (I suppose they dont really know) But since we went to RW 3 (at least for me) all Alchemy problems have evaporated and it works fine with all scenarios it used to fail on.

I'd rather they just got TS2012 working with OpenAL once and for all so we don't need Alchemy at all...

Agreed, Alchemy works fine in the Win7 RW3 combination.

Same here for me,
I didn't know about Alchemy until 2 days ago, in fact i thought my sound was pretty good, until i saw a vid of a steam train going through a tunnel (blowing the whistle ) and hearing the whoosh of the tunnel and the reverb etc etc ,

So i downloaded Alchemy , set it up , and ran RW2012 ...and Blimey, What a difference, I cant believe i have missed out on these effects for so long , ( i have a XFi Xtreme Gamer Sound Card )....

I am happy to report that most of the effects are working,EAX Effects , 5.1 etc etc , (although im not sure if the effect is working when going over a bridge,.... going under is brilliant ) in fact it has cured the Sound drop outs i was getting with the all the steam engines, , so thats a bonus.....also my frame rates seem to have improved, how this has occurred is a mystery, all i know is that its performing and sounding better than it ever has.

Cheers all

1. Click the Add Button
2. Give it a name e.g. TS2012
3. Click the Radio Button for Game Path can enter the path to your TS2012 Installation.

Thats about it. It got it working on my card too I am happy to report.
