Remember when WCML came out it got a rash of complaints for bringing computers to its knees. This is a massive 90 mile route so the focus of this was probably on Joe Average gamer and not the gamers with the death star sitting in their PC. It runs darn smooth.

Looks great to me. I'm more than happy with it all.

Thus, a route it will probably be not much longer to buy.

And if Hans and Franz on this route may play his 4 year old PC or laptop that interests me very little.
I demand quality for my money.
For a final decision but I'm still off. What I've seen so far does not convince me.
The Cab seems to me rather primitive in comparison with other CAB's good.

Anyway the addon is number 1 on the top sellers list whats quite a supprise

It's currently listed at 20% off (thank you RSC). Downloading it now. Will be nice (for me anyway ) to have another North American route to bodge around and one with more passenger operations as a focus than freighting. Cheers, off to give it a try as it just finished updating.

It is pretty darned good, but there are a few rough edges; some are around the route itself, e.g. I've spotted a catenary wire crossing the track at knee height just South of Rahway station where the North Jersey coast line branches off the mainline -- it's actually the wire that goes *under* the mainline, but it sticks up above it because the catenary is a fixed (high) height.

Then, as ICE mentioned, the cab of the AEM7 seems a bit "low-res" compared to some of the recent UK releases, e.g. the Class 86, the Class 67, the 421, the 450 -- it has a fuzzy, slightly out-of-focus appearance to some of the instrumentation and textures. This is strange as it's all where it should be and some of the pre-production shots over at RWA.com look quite amazing. Not sure what the issue is, possibly the MDF "worktop" texture bringing down everything else, possibly the overall darkness of it all, I'm not sure, but it just does


Great stuff that they got the official license from Amtrak, mind, but am I the only that thinks the finish of both loco and coaches could look more, umm, "aluminumy"{sic}?

Lastly, as already mentioned, the free-roams are all quite knackered and it's good to hear that RSC have already got a fix in the pipeline. I've a feeling that it's something to do with this weird thing at Adams -- check out the dev notes and the odd consist name...:

It's a shame that the last bit of polish wasn't there when it went out the door, but if RSC can squash the buggies PDQ, this addon will undoubtedly be a boon for them and net them a lot more customers.

Personally, I'd still give it an 8/10 on first impressions just for the amount of route detail, the new assets, oh and like Bill said, the fact that it runs decent frame-rates without needing a mega-spec PC.

So NEC is out, a American Passenger themed route. I am primary a UK fan and have quite a interest in passenger running so I've always actually been alittle put off or not interested by most of the american freight locomotive and routes so NEC is somewhat right up my street of interest and I've naturally bought it for the passenger running, I look forward also to the addition of the Acela later on, that sexy devil is just screaming to bet let loose on NEC.

Anyway, to the actual route, first to begin, being a UK fan, I haven't the damned foggest idea if the route is accurate to real life, I am just going with the assumption is pretty close or is very accurate in the limitations of a computer generated version of a real life route, I have ridden the route on both MSTS and Trainz so I am slightly familiar to the surroundings so I do recognise some bits but other than that I am but a sheep lost in the field.

Impressions for me is the route is stunning and very high detailed, from the cities to the stations to the new track and new american overhead electric lines its certainly a treat for anyone and I think it would certainly please the US fans, its certainly pleasing me as a primary UK fan.

The actual route's performance seems exceedingly well optimised all things considered, which is I'm sure to some prespective buyers a important factor after WCML in the past, I don't seem to be suffering any rubbing banding even at speed in the AEM, though I get slight sound stutter rarely as it might load a very large span of assets, but its not system crippling or disruptive in anyway, for example, in the following screen, all those assets are loaded and I'm doing 80 in the AEM and there isn't any bounce or rubberbanding for me:



The rolling stock included with the route, the AEM and passenger stock is very high detailed and looks like its real life counterparts to my eye, the cab is pretty well done, I think slight crisper texturing on the dashboard would have been nice but it doesn't detract away from the actual driving experience. The outside looks well preportioned and the pento is sitting on the wires compared to earlier screenshots. The passenger rolling stock is really high detailed and looks great, no passenger view however but you can have a look inside with the 8 key view, I'm kinda surprised to see american passenger carriages look like a aircraft rather than a train to, not a bad thing but you can see the american idea behind it all for effiency.

In conclusion, I think the route is a worthwhile buy, its impressive and pleasing for me as a UK fan and I think a US fan is certainly going to be happy with it aswell and finally recieving some more US content and i can certainly say that with the addition of RW3 changes to lighting in September this route is going to look even better.

I certainly concur with Wikkus and Crumplezone's reviews, and not being from that region can't say how accurate the map is-- but it does look good and plays quite smoothly. Agree about the cab and was a bit surprised at the 'roughness' of the graphics given some of the stellar looking cabs more recently done, however the exterior is really nicely done. Off to do some more runs

Oh, I do like the cruise control set up and really like the in-cab sounds, catching snatches of driver/dispatcher radio convos.
