Crashing, PC Problem?

Seems to be one thing after another at the moment with simming and my PC! I recently added a solid state drive as a 2nd drive to my PC with the aim of improving frame rates in MSTS and RW2, at the moment im only runng RW2 from it and its made a massive improvment in maintaning steady frame rates and boosting load times. Now here`s the downside, after approx 15 minutes RW2 freezes and either the pc will freeze completely or shut down. So does anyone have any idea on what im doing or done wrong.

PC specs are; AMD x4 3.4, ATI radeon HD5750 1GB, 4GB RAM, 550w P/S, 500 GB hard drive and 64GB SSD

Hi

It's conceivable that you might have got a cable stuck in one of your fans somewhere from when you installed your new drive.

Worth a look anyway, and it sounds like the problem is over-heating.

Also depending on what SSD you have it may be caused by the issues reported in the following article -

Thanks, I'll inspect inside the case. If it is overheating would there normaly be some type of warning before the system crashes?

The SSD is a Kingston V SSD Now series 64GB.

Wich OS do you use?
A SSD as a second drive is a bit strange

I recommend Windows 7, 64 bit ON & installed on that SSD (RW2 too).
Installing a SSD is not the same as installing a hard disk

I have a INtel SSD > 160 GB.
Windows 7, 64 bit and my software is on the same SSD. (NO data he, only software like RW2)

First of all find and read all you can find about a SSD.
Your SSD he.
Do you know what TRIM is? Windows 7 will handle this.
Look too for firmware updates if any.

Win7 64bit is not on the ssd, its on the main HD, the only thing on the ssd at the moment is RW2.

Im not aware of TRIM.

As per above posts i have checked all the fans and all are running as they should be.

I have also reinstalled an old ATi graphics driver just out of curiosity and re ran RW2 and no system crashes...... could this have been the cause? (will do more testing) I also monitored temps while running an activity; MB temp 43c CPU temp 49c however this was with the side pannel of the pc tower.

not a good idea to run the PC with the side cover off for too long, PC cases are designed to give maximum cooling with all the covers on.

testing now over, system crashed and as far as im aware there was no over heating. so the finger now points at the SSD for reasons im unsure about. Once it locks up the only way out is to force power off by the mains. So would having win7 on the SSD have any difference?

Without the SSD, the system is running just fine I do guess?

There is no doubt: a SSD is the best upgrade for a pc.

Ok i have now done a clean install of the OS on the SSD, as normal i backed up anything of value on my external. Straight away the system operates alot faster than before! One concern though, now Windows 7 is on my 64gb SSD there is no partition on this drive, should there be? The SSD is now drive C: My old HD is still partioned is this also right? So how would i keep the SSD for the operating system and say railworks 2?
