Route retrieval

Post by grahamje »

I've just been forced to install a new hard drive in my pc because of a badly corrupted OS, but have retained the original hard drive so that some valuable files can be transferred. Now I have reinstalled Railworks, can someone please advise of the best way to retrieve my own Routes which I've been working on for months. I don't have RW Tools. Is it a matter of copying and pasting from and to the correct folders?
I apologise if this question has already been asked but I'm unable to find reference.

Cheers

Yes, it is just a copy/paste job with no need for any extra tools to copy them. Navigate to \Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Content\Routes\ where you will find a whole bunch of folders that are named with unique random alpha-numeric ID codes - each folder contains one route. Simply copy them across to the corresponding \Content\Routes\ folder in your new installation.

I would suggest copying and pasting all of them, even those which are default routes, because it means you will also recover any scenarios you had added to regular routes in the old installation.

Good luck! :D

Thanks Transadelaide. I'll try later.
Just a couple of other points if I may.

I assume I'll need to reload all the third party assets that I've used before the routes can be edited and will the routes open without the DEM data.

You can copy assets and DEM files from the old installation in the same way as the routes. For a route where you have already raised the terrain, having no DEM files is not a problem because their work is already complete.
