Railworks 3 - What We Know So Far
Not sure if this is going to be useful to anyone, but this is a complete list of all RS.com announcements made via various websites compiled into one list.
I'll try and keep it up to date if there's enough demand for it, as I know not everyone enjoys trawling through Facebook, Twitter etc. looking for the latest information.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
-Video to be released on 21st July.
GAMEPLAY
-RW3 will be released on 23rd September 2011 – updating will be done via STEAM automatically for all users.
-Upgrading from Railworks 2 to RW3 will be free for owners of Railworks 2.
-Multiple-source dynamic lighting; allows streetlights & headlights to illuminate the groun and nearby objects.
-Extended terrian draw distance and terrain shadows.
-Multiple headed consists to allow consists to be powered by various types of traction.
-Particle effects on locomotive windows e.g. rain.
-Working wipers which clear away rain drops.
-Improved skies with stars, moving clouds, sun glare and more.
-Water with depth and reflections of nearby objects/terrain.
-Depth of field can be switched on to give a camera focus effect.
-Soft shadows mimic daylight.
-Consist speed limits realistically enforced.
-Improved track unevenness and cab camera movement increasing with speed.
-Secret UK locomotive to be announced shortly (not the 90, 33, 73 or 70!).
-Realistic cab sway and cab movement, especially going over points.
-Smoothing of vertical curves on tracks.
-The RS Career System, Cab Control and World Editor will remain in place with enhancements.
-Multiplayer mode will be implemented at some point in the future.
DEVELOPERS
-Ability to lay blocks of assets.
-Improved terrain moderling and better import tool.
-Ability to preview lofts in the asset editor.
-Improved browser list, and functionality, plus other improvements to the asset editor.
-New stopping point feature to simplify scenario creation.
-New way of simplifying display of editor features.
-New way of authoring marshalling AI trains – particuarly useful in yards.
TECHNOLOGY
-Support for Multi-core systems.
-Total download size is yet to be announced.
-You can lower the improved graphics and effects - this should help on older computers.
-New, user interface and loading screens.
-RW3 will be based on the new TSX engine.
-All DLC downloaded from Steam will continue to work with RS3, and will be upgraded to "take full advantage of the new Train Simulator 2012 technology" in time.

You can add in that there is a brand new EMD F7 to be included.

You can also add that there will be another default route for new buyers of the sim (payware additional DLC for current users who get the upgrade) which is looking like it will include at least part of Norfolk Southern's Pennsylvania route.

Correct. Uhm, no, it is not. Even though the Tornado DLC was, for a while, bundled with newly purchased versions of Railworks, that doesn't make that one a default item either.

Its default with railworks 3 purchased on day of release, its not however default with upgrades for free, easy to understand, no?USRailFan wrote:Uhm, no, it is not. Edit: To add to the list, Derek just released some info for Super elevation:
To make use of Super elevation you need to have laid your track with easements.

nothing wrong with easements. sadly they have been mostly neglected in the past, despite being actually very easy to use and improving the trackwork a lot.
