One of my projects for Railworks.

Post by jpetersjr2 »

Here's some progress of something I've been busy building for Railworks here in America.

It is a 1930's style American steam locomotive, a classic Baldwin 4,6,2 Pacific.

When I finally do finish it it will have a full 3d cab.

As of right now my main goal is to actually get it into the sim.

It will be freeware.

Hi. And welcome.

That looks like a great model in the making. I thoroughly enjoy watching work like this progress and am very much looking forward to seeing more.

Cheers

Here's a little progress on the 3d cab.

I have a photographer going to take me some cab pictures of a real Pacific, I'm really just waiting on him before I do much with the 3d cab.

Excellent work

If you have not got it already, this tutorial may be of assistance -

I have got it, I will be using sketchup soon to help make the pipes.

How does that work then? I'm intrigued.

First you have to have a special tool/plug in that allows you to make pipes. You start out with a circle and draw a line in the shape you're needing. You would draw a small circle, and to do it right you will need a small wall that you will later delete to lay your lines and arches that the follow me tool will follow to create your pipe.

Here we have one of the undercarriage piping that will link the brake tanks on the bottom up to the engine itself. I will have to resize it once I get it into Crafter, but that's the easy part. Truly, it's easier to build your pipes, or pipe pieces in sketchup so you have better control over what shape you want and then export it into Crafter.

Here's a picture of what I got in doing this process.

Well, unfortunately Crafter won't import anything made by that tool, so I'll have to do it the hard way.

Hi

In Canvas/Crafter I create the shape I want using the extrude tool to make a 3D object and then use the Pipe Engineer plug-in along the edge that represents the shape I need. The host object is deleted leaving the new pipe. There are limitations as it is more difficult to create and edge in three directions but for flat pipework it is quite quick.

Hi

That's a downer.

I wasn't specific enough in my earlier post I'm afraid - I actually meant to ask how the import from Sketchup into Crafter works.

Good luck with the creating your pipework in Crafter.
