One more thing is there a way to tweek your FX settings. i see from the screen shots on making tracks website the screen shots look more like RW the MSTS? or are they on this open rail which some people have talked about?
Not sure what you mean by this but lets just say that over 10 years the development of routes, stock and features renders MSTS totally unrecognisable from the initial installed version. I too have a rarely used RW icon and I have to say that although the possibilities of the RW graphics engine are obviously better it doesn't follow that what's been created using it is better. If you look at the latest routes and stock for MSTS I think you'll find that it's more a case of "horses for courses" rather than a distinct "leader". Trouble is there's SO much content for MSTS now that to bring you up to speed on the last 7 years we need to know more specifically what area, era, type of locomotion etc. interests you. There are probably fewer commercial add-on providers for MSTS than RW now (?) but those who've survived have developed their stuff to new heights too and many concentrate on specific areas.
I would say that the Steam4Me tutorial is probably THE "Holy Grail" and don't forget that Matt has added "Quick Picks" to the top of the front page
http://www.uktrainsim.com/mstsquickpicks.php
and I'd install all of that lot for starters.
Let us know where your interests lie and we can make some specific recomendations.
