How have they done this?

Fire up your 3D modelling tool and start building some rolling stock, or find out what others are previewing here. If you have questions about how to make the blueprints work or what names mean what in models, here's the place to find out your answers.

How have they done this?

Post by Trainguy76 »

Hiya, when looking at RSC's diesel models, there are often doors that protrude along the side of the engine. When it is mapped on a texture it smoothly fits in like it's not even there, is there any way to know how this is done?

Examples include the EMD SD70's the GP9, and the Dash-9.

I believe when they map it, they just map the entire 'visible' face, so the entire side + the doors etc. It's very useful at times where you've got weird and wonderful curves that swoosh about all over the place. :)

Map the entire face in one go, or alternatively you could stitch the door mapping into the body's UVW space at a later time.

Ah, I see, this must be why the doors along the side do not have a flat edge sticking out then.
