56xx released.

Re: 56xx Soon to be released.
It's certainly not for the faint hearted this one. We'll be inundated with people applauding for realism and then equally inundated with people asking why they have just gone bang.

I had a similar thought, Darren; I can just imagine it: "This is rubbish! I went backwards through a hedge and my PC set the curtains on fire!", etc.Darpor wrote:We'll be inundated with people applauding for realism and then equally inundated with people asking why they have just gone bang.
Rik.
Re: 56xx Soon to be released.
It's a challenge Rik, I hope others the same as me see it as the same. Some who know me will know that I am not a "huge" Steam fan so when I had the opportunity to look at the locomotive, it was with trepidation but also, with the list of "bother" I could get in to, I had to have a go. Needless to say, early efforts were quite upsetting, head scratching and desk banging aplenty but then the challenge took over and I eventually mastered it (well, sort of). Hopefully it will catch a few out, take them out of their comfort zone so to speak which also helps in prolonging the experience (or agony).

Re: 56xx Soon to be released.
Seems to me as though this is going to be a loco that needs driving...

Re: 56xx Soon to be released.
I am really looking forward to this one for both its technical impressiveness and its GWRness.
However, I wonder if the demand will be so great for "pro" locomotives. After all, I do quite enjoy sometimes not needing to concentrate 100% on my driving technique and enjoying the graphics and sounds for a bit, and I think the more casual Railworks user would be put off by something difficult to drive. It is a relatively niche product even within trainsimming; I'm just a part of that niche (as I feel many other UKTS forum members might be).
I wish both Pete and RSC the best of luck with this release and hope that some of these advanced features are repeated in future releases.

Re: 56xx Soon to be released.
I believe their will be a demand for more 'pro' Locomotives like their is for incredibly complex aircraft on FSX.
Im looking forward to put my 'real world' skills to test i've learnt from preserved railways, and also for the reason of being the Type of locomotive i first helped to volunteer on, clean, fire and also get footplate experince from it

Re: 56xx Soon to be released.
Be plenty of demand for a more realistic experience in these "pro" versions, considering we do play a railway "simulator" I'd fully welcome any kind of DLC which brings a more simulated experience, Karma(pete) has always been a advocate of realism and prototypical operation and I would say he's pulled it off with all the features included, Oovee's 156 set the bar, it added alot of realism to a simulator and Pete is doing the same with the 56xx, if more were to be released in this style, I wouldn't mind the wait, because in the end I've got something to drive which is near as possible we can get on a computer without stepping inside the real thing.
Yes deffinately there will be a few bemoaning how difficult it is to drive, but the same happened with the 156, which was ignorance in the fact they hadn't read the manual, I assume Pete will have a similar how to drive and instructions PDF like he included with the Q1 so I don't see a issue in the end. If its difficult to drive then so be it, but alittle practice will go a long way, and I prefer hard to drive over simplicity interactivity anyday.
Anyways, more GWR, its what we need

This should be easy to drive.. Just turn the key and press the gas.

Re: 56xx Soon to be released.
You are going to need an oily rag in your hand to drive this one, and wash the coal dust from your face after your shift.
You may need to work hard to finish a scenario with this loco but the sense of achievement will be greater too of course

... until you forget the cyl cocks when you move off the stock at the end...
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

Re: 56xx Soon to be released.
Oh, I am sure this model is going to provide those unaware of its "intricacies" with plenty of "interesting" moments...
Re: 56xx Soon to be released.
Erm, I hope you dont have an instance to hand of the real thing doing that. The most ive been found for it to be able to do is only 65, which you can just about touch in the sim. Indeed I get the impression the motion would have given up in dispair doing more than that.metrobus wrote:I wonder if this thing will do 88mph![]()

You are all going to love how hard its is to drive with the reverser set up realistically . Think of the difference between automatic and manual transmission in your car and you may see what I mean.

You've missed the BTTF reference, Stuart.stuart666 wrote:Erm, I hope you dont have an instance to hand of the real thing doing that. Re: 56xx Soon to be released.
Indeed. I think a lot of the reason why many MSTS enthusiasts havent jumped over to Railworks is there might be a perception that is lacking in accuracy and perhaps may be regarded as 'sim lite' compared to some of the enhancements made to MSTS by the community. Who it has to be said, have put their heart and soul into improving it.crumplezone wrote:Be plenty of demand for a more realistic experience in these "pro" versions, considering we do play a railway "simulator" I'd fully welcome any kind of DLC which brings a more simulated experience, Karma(pete) has always been a advocate of realism and prototypical operation and I would say he's pulled it off with all the features included, Oovee's 156 set the bar, it added alot of realism to a simulator and Pete is doing the same with the 56xx, if more were to be released in this style, I wouldn't mind the wait, because in the end I've got something to drive which is near as possible we can get on a computer without stepping inside the real thing.

I think that Pete has demonstrated with this that there IS a lot of functionality in Railworks that just hasnt been tapped into as far as steam locomotives are concerned. Hopefully that may pull more steam enthusiasts over from MSTS and invest the community with some of their knowhow. I hope so.
Re: 56xx Soon to be released.
Ah me bad. Though I wouldnt say no to that rather nice flying steam locomotive in BTTF 3.Tankski wrote:You've missed the BTTF reference, Stuart.stuart666 wrote:Erm, I hope you dont have an instance to hand of the real thing doing that.
