Converting MSTS stock into RW.
Hi All,
I appreciate this is a bit of a 'dodgy' area so imagine there'll be a bit of moderating etc.
I'm currently looking at porting a lot of my old models into RW - they were all made for an MSTS project that i'd like to continue in Railworks if at all possible. There's a bit of everything - stock, buildings and locomotives.
I understand that a converter from TSM .dst files etc exists but in some cases I only retain the MSTS .s, .sd files etc. I'm aware that a converter possibly exists to allow such a conversion (unfortunately having only seen unauthorised examples of it in use) however are details on such available?
I understand that giving such a tool publicity might increase unauthorised conversions of MSTS stock to RW, but my reasons are entirely legitimate.
Dave

If the original MSTS models were made by you, than there is not a problem with "unauthorized" conversion of the models.
Here is a post on how to convert the models, and included in this thread is a link to the converter program as well as tutorials on how to do it.

I have converted many MSTS models (not my own) to RW for my own use. Since they are not my original models I do not make them available to any other user, and do not post images of my converted models. But as long as I just use them for myself, it is fine to convert; and like I said earlier, if you were the original creator of these MSTS models, than you can distribute the converted models with no problem.

I don't know if you have seen this thread (which also has links onwards), or if it will be of any use to you:

Re: Converting MSTS stock into RW.
What did you use to model them? is it not worth looking at porting the source files into a 3d editor you can directly export to RW from?
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.
Re: Converting MSTS stock into RW.
TSM, however i've lost some of the source files and retain only the S and SD etc.Kariban wrote:What did you use to model them? is it not worth looking at porting the source files into a 3d editor you can directly export to RW from?

That's exactly what I'm after, however I don't appear to be having much sucess with it at the moment - I select the .s file I wish to convert and click 'add file to list' however it....well...doesn'tdick8299 wrote:The converter mentioned in the previous posts converts s files to 3ds files.
Looks like a long day ahead...
EDIT - it looks like I can convert buildings, but any item of stock seems to throw up the above issues....
