Open the activity in AE. Click Tools | Verify Starting State. This will show any potential problems.

Hi Barrie, doing what Yuri has suggested will only show you where possible problems occur not fix it, one reason for this
message could mean that when you start the Activity a consist is being placed where there is already something there.
Have a look at the Activity in A.E. and see what AI traffic is being created at the start time, look in the Traffic File and find where it starts and then look at the AI Path Starting position for Static Consists on the same piece of track.
I have many times had to move Static Consists onto a grey track i.e unused, saved the Activity and tried again, once I had to move three before I got the Activity to work properly.

Hi Bob
Thankyou so much for your solution to my problem.
Unfortunately when it comes to anything technical I am lost and so worried in case I make a mess that I
reinstalled East Coast Express and all is now OK.
Thankyou once again

Hi Barrie, glad you sorted it out, I recently re-installed the ECE Part 1 and until now I haven't done any yet so I tried the one you listed and it ran o.k. so I was going to suggest that you do the same after I had got back from the doctors.
Don't worry about looking at the workings of Activities, I downloaded Rich Garber's booklet on Step By Step Guide to Train Sim Activities and this is available from Abacus Publications in America.
click on this link and it will take you to the main page, near the top is a tab called Train Sim add-ons, select this and scroll down the page and it is in the left hand column about half way down.
http://www.abacuspub.com/ts/
This is well worth the ten dollars charge and explains so many things about Activities with diagrams and explanations that even a complete novice can understand it.
We all have to learn about the various things that can go wrong with MSTS and now I am so much more confident that I am sometimes amazed what I have achieved in only a few years.

Hi Bob
Have had a look at the book you recommend and it certainly looks good value for the money.
I think I will obtain a copy.
Thankyou very much

Hi Barrie, when you order from them by e-mail, the booklet comes as an attachment to your order details.
Have plenty sheets of paper in your printer as it is quite a large file and takes a little while to print out but when you
read it you will be amazed at what it can tell you.
It explains all the different things you see when open up A.E. and then goes on how to create your simple Activity with
a Players path and making your own Consist up or using one already installed, entering a Players Timetable.
Creating AI Traffic along with their start times of them, what can be entered to control the Activities i.e.
Location Points, Work Schedules, Action Windows and entering Temp. Speed limits.
I could go on and on, so by all means buy and you will not be disappointed for your £5.00 or whatever the current
exchange rate is now.

The Rich Garber book is now quite old and, if I'm not mistaken, hasn't been updated for nine years or so (I do have a copy somewhere on my hard drive).

Before you spend your money, have a good read of Michael Sinclair's tutorial at http://msts.steam4me.net/tutorials/MS_A ... index.html - it will teach you just about everything that's in Rich's tutorial (Rich's chapters on "Events" are a notable exception).

There are also subjects covered at http://msts.steam4me.net/tutorials/inde ... activities which are not mentioned in Rich Garber's book, such as fixing a broken path, editing timetables, passing points and so on.

Whilst the Abacus Route Building Guide is still the definitive work on route building, our understanding of activity creation has moved on quite a bit in the last nine years.

Hi Yuri, yes I agree with you about the age of Rich Garber's Booklet but it does explain the basics in Activities and
is easy for a beginner to understand.
I started with that a few years ago and then looked at the other items you mentioned which added to my overall
knowledge of the in's and out's of what people have used in their Activities.
I have been able to repair broken paths which occured when installing Activities for an earlier version of a Route
into a later version.
