Quote from the RailUK Forums, where I found the info...
It is in Beta testing at the moment I think and the guy behind it is the same guy who started fotopic, as a result it should have the same kind of functionality as fotopic and I understand that you will be able to transfer your fotopic galleries to the new site.
... I understand that you will be able to transfer your fotopic galleries to the new site.
Depends on what you mean by 'transfer'. If you signed up for pikfu before fotopic disappeared, possibly. If you're joining pikfu now, and fotopic doesn't come back up, you'll have to rebuild your galleries and upload images all over again.
It appears now that Fotopic.net have been taken off from Google directory, but all sub-directories are still here, according to Fotopic's Facebook. It is rumoured that Fotopic.net is closed for good, and one of the users even tried to call Fotopic.net, which ended up being diverted, and no-one can contact with Fotopic.net.
Rumours also happened on Wikipedia, and not even Joel can fix fotopic easily.

Hi everyone -- Contact's been made with Snappy's directors. If there is a way of sorting this out then I'll help where I can, but for the moment my hands are tied. j x

This from the railway forum wnxx: Gents, I have just made a visit to Snappy Designs Ltd at their Registered address in London. I spoke to the accountant who gave me the telephone number of the man owns the company a Mr Steve Dyer. He tells me the web site will be back on line soon as they are setting up a new site. I Did tell him there are a lot of un happy people out there as you have failed to tell us what is happening to the Fotopic web site. A man called Joel is at present transferring all the data onto another server ,Mr Dyers is going to call me later today and give me some more information and the down time of the Fotopic web site.

Gents,

Questions still need to be asked & I still say their is more to this than what we are being told via a, or via any forum.
1. Unless the previous owner got permission to access fotopic, how can the previous owner claim that he is in the process of transferring that MAY allow Fotopic users to transfer pictures from Fotopic to whatever the name is, and
2. If it is simple as that quote shows, then why didn't the Fotopic owners put a simple message on the webpage, or maybe send a message to every user that it will Fotopic will be off line, until further notice, before the site went off line, and/or
3. If Fotopic is or may not be allowed to say why, that on the site, a similar message saying that "Fotopic is offline until further notice, however we are no able to discuss the issue further, but most importantly, those that paid for a premium account, aren't they entitled to either a part or full refund, as their paid service is also affected.
But I think this will be the finally straw to many, especially those that have forked out money for a premium account.
POLL: Since the NSW govt has now closed the Newcastle Rail Line (NSW, Australia), what route is best for Newcastle's "light rail"?:http://wp.me/P5xGOF-32
Their is a transcript between Amateur Photographer (AP) and director of Snappy designs. Mostly he refuses to answers questions put to him by AP. He also refuses to say if the premium users will get their money back.

So I have lost all my photos I uploaded them to fotopix and deleated them to save space on my disk they could of at least e-mailed people saying there going bust so you had a chance to download you photos and stop loosing them
To be fair to the snappy designs people I'm not sure you can hold them responsible for you failing to back up your own data in a secure manner. Most of my photos are stored on a combination of various hard disks; cds & dvds. Plus also some online in various locations but mostly with multiple copies.
Also it's not exactly good business practice to say "oh by the way, you may wish to remove all your data from our site as in x weeks we won't be able to run the site anymore" is it? Surely they would have been concentrating on trying to turn the business around by increasing custom and gaining support from elsewhere? Remember also that the last people to know about a company going under are often those working for the company.
Geoffrey Swindale. Truth is rarely pure, and never simple.
Yeah i have to admit, bad move deleting everything from your machine and only keeping it on fotopic.
For starters fotopic didn't retain the same quality as the original image. I have backups of all my images on my old pc, external hard drive and quite a few are on disk as well as on this machine.
I do have to admit though, an email or announcement could have at least been made by now.
Fotopic and its parent company Snappy Designs Ltd are no longer trading.
Discussions are in progress with a new team to rescue part of its service and the images.
The important points to note:
The images that have been uploaded to the Fotopic servers are safe.
Our aim is to find a migration path to a new service with similar or better functionality
than Fotopic and a method for users to export their existing images.
We cannot give you a date for this just yet – please subscribe to our newsletter to be updated.
Please understand that we cannot answer specific queries at this time, but will be able to
give more information once we are live with a new service.
Thank you for your understanding.
