New Laptop for RW2

Post by icornish »

Hi all,

Am looking at a new laptop primarily for RW2. Can't quite afford Alienware technology, but am looking the Dell XPS-15 with the 1Gb Nvidia GT420 graphics and the i5-480 chipset (this one here...http://www.dell.com/uk/p/xps-15/pd), though will upgrade it to 6GB Ram (I know RW2 can't use it, but Windows can as can other stuff like Thunderbird, OpenOffice & Chrome etc). I currently have a Dell Latitude E-Series with an Nvidia Quadro NVS-160 (it's a work one :-? ), that seems to run RW2 quite well (occasional stutter)

Does anyone have any positive or negative experience with this model/spec? This is about as far as my budget will take me.

HI

You can also use a Lenovo T510 type 4384 WM6. It runs Railworks very fine on a Win7 64 bit. :)

i was also looking at the xps range of laptops. For the price of an xps laptop that will play railworks well, you'd be better off buying alienwares m15x as its not too bad price for what you are getting i.e. hardware and build quality. I have the alienware m17x and it runs railworks on maxed out graphics at 30+fps. for the extra bit of cash its worth it

Railworks will probably like the Core i5 quite nicely. As long as the graphics can keep up, you shouldn't have any trouble - the 420 isn't exactly high-end, but Railworks doesn't currently demand much of it.
The key to knowledge is not to rely on others to teach you it.
