Static Wagons.

Post by ThomasTelford »

Hi Folks. :fadein:

When making an activity and you place rakes of static wagons in the sidings so that the sidings look more like they would have in the 60's or 70's and not the sad empty sight they do now how does the computer memoury treat them.Does it treat them as they are pieces of stock (Just with a lower poly count) or pieces of sceanery and does it effect the amount of usable stock items that you can add?
One other question.....I have noticed that on the Thames Mersey route the sidings have static stock permanently in the sidings,no matter what activity you run the same rakes/consists of wagons are there,i am wondering how i would go about adding static items of stock to a route so as no matter what activity you run they would appear.

Hi Thomas,

How I go about putting static items in is when creating a activity I have made up several rakes of static items IE Coaches and Freight wagons, then using activity editor just place them in various sidings,or with carriages in station platforms, some times in a terminus I have the incoming loco at the front of the stock and then place a shunter behind it,also I add static loco's at sheds,it's easy to make static locos and AI loco's with Route Riter.

With my method it looks like trains have come and gone,as each activity is different, and I haven't noticed any significant drop in frame rates.

Mind you it's only recently that I have had the courage to add things and I've had MSTS since abuy 2003,all the best with yor efforts,I doubt if my activities would be good enough to release,as I use a mixture of Commercial Loco'and Stock and also items from the liberary.

Hi Thomas
The static wagons in TM are added as items of scenery to the route.
So they are shapes and textures in the routes folder, and added to the ref file as any other object.
You then use RE to add them to the route.
The clever thing on TM is that the BAT file changes their skins when its run between steam/diesel eras.

Cheers
