New Blender exporter out

The intricacies, or simplicities of 3D modelling are worth understanding. Alongside other forums like Building Rolling Stock, Scenic Item Creation and the other tool specific forums here's another place to ask questions that just don't quite fit the other forums.

Anyone know how to install it if you have the old exporter installed?

Thank you, Henning! I was able to export my Porter Diesel into RW2. Now I need to figure out how to animate in Blender.
Anyone know how to install it if you have the old exporter installed?
I just removed the 3 files - bigex25.pyc, bigex26.pyc and RS_exp_igs_V200.py from the Blender/scripts folder and pasted in the 4 new files.

Have fun at using it

Hadn't the time to post an "official" release note here...

To everyone who got Bigex 2.1 successfully up and running: could you post your environment spec here please?
Means Operating System, Python, Blender versions & 32 / 64Bit

I also updated the example objects: I added one more shader example and of course an animation example. So its easy to start from there :D

Also the manuals are updated: Shader overview, Blender fields exported into IA/IGS files, etc. and much more hardcore background :)

Windows XP SP3 32-bit,
Blender 2.49
Python 2.6.2

This gave this, and did not work until I had set the scripts directory under 'User Preferences\File Paths'.

One thing I am wondering about is that there is a .igs and .ia export option in the menus, but starting each one, gives the same User Interface.

Hey Alex,

thanks for sharing this info.

The shown error at starting up Blender:

ImportError: No module named BPyRegistry

indicates that your Blender installation is not clean. Blender can not find it's own module BPyRegistry.py

For my installation its in:
c:\Program Files\Blender249b\.blender\scripts\bpymodules\BPyRegistry.py

Maybe you renamed your Blender folder after installation? Or choose to store scripts in "Documents and Settings" at Blender installation? Or "reused" the folder from an old Blender istallation?

Whatever, at latest by setting the script folder manually in the Blender settings, things should work fine.

Regarding the IA and IGS startup scripts: The start button for the IA (animation) export as well as the start button for the IGS (model geometry) export are on the Bigex GUI. For historical reasons there are still two different Bigex startup entries placed in the Blender menus: one for IA and one for IGS.

Hi Henning, this occurred even after I reinstalled Blender. This didn't happen on the old exporter. But this stopped occurring when I filled in the highlighted area.

Right, the old exporter didn't use BPyRegistry.

Strange thing is: Bigex imports successfully other Blender Python modules like Windows, Mesh from exactly that folder before the error with Registry shows up :-?

Currently I've no idea why this happens. All indicators are pointing towards Blender internal initialization (what, when) ...

Quick question: From your error report picture it looks like the Bigex GUI is started togehter with Blender. Is this correct?
Does the error occur also when you start up Blender first and afterwards start Bigex?

Aha, things pointing even stronger to Blender's internal startup order of its external Python modules...
