Duchesses for Scottish Central

Post by mickrik »

Hi There,

As shown on the Scottish Central Route thread but here in a little more detail the first 3 "Semi" Princess Coronation / Duchess Class locos.

First we have 46227 "Duchess of Devonshire" which spent a while allocated to Polmadie 66A. The photos I have seen of her are generally very clean.

So here she is a clean 46227

Here is another screenshot of 46235 "City Of Birmingham" (god bless her and wish she was at Tysley)

I have done an early fifties version with a droop smokebox of 46239 "City Of Chester" in a not very clean condition.

Very nice Mick, they are really looking the business.

I agree with you about "City of Birmingham", what a waste of a beautiful piece of Locomotion. :(

Hi Mick,
Great looking locos - many thanks!!

But, I apologise for being a little pedantic 8), referring to 'City of Chester', I thought the 'Cycling Lion' totem always faced forwards, whereas the later one always faced left.

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Mick,
I was looking at my 1961 Ian Allan Combined Volume and found 2 that would be really suitable for the route,46241 City of Edingburgh, and 46242 City of Glasgow.

Hi Michael,

Me and Geoff picked the 5 and we are sticking to these.

46227 Duchess of Devonshire
46235 City Of Birmingham
46239 City of Chester
46244 King George VI (Maroon)
46247 City Of Liverpool (Maroon)

Apart from 46227 which was allocated to Polmadie, the others had visited Glasgow several times.
