SVR Metal thefts

Post by jimmyladd »

Theives managed to bypass the security equpiment and hotwire the 30 tonne crane and have it away with 11 tonnes of copper sheeting, valued at £50000. Amazingly they had tried to break in the night before, but had failed. Seems they arn't scared of anything.

Hotwired the :bad-words: crane?

I vote we castrate them. Then we'll be sure of getting the metal back.

The courts just wont punish them. If you nicked £50+k from a bank you'd get 5 to 10 years. Steal a shed load of wire off a railway and put innocent peoples lives in danger, and you'll get 18 months suspended. Just doesn't make sence to me. I quote these figures from courts records from the last 12 months.

I take it the copper sheeting was taken from outside the boilershop at Bridgnorth? Seems a tad risky leaving £50k's worth of copper out in the open overnight...

Nope- inside!

Broke in through one of the wooden side vents. Disabled the alarm using a ladder nicked from the yard. Hot wired the overhead crane to lift the door open and load the copper onto a lorry.

Scarily, clinically well executed.

Every railway needs to be on their guard- they are all somewhat easy targets for these scum.

Blimey, sounds like it was very well researched and planned. I hope there is insurance cover as I can't imagine £50k is very easy to come by in these frugal times.

It's not just plain old metal thieves people need to watch out for. Check out this recent theft from a north wales quarry. The evidence seems to suggest the work of enthusiasts.

That must be a new use of the word 'enthusiasts' that I haven't come across before. 'Morons' would be more appropriate in my opinion.
