Shape File Manager problem

Post by Tonysmedley »

I am having problems with trying to run Shape File Manager which I have recently re-installed and want to use.
When I try to open the Train set files to select a particular loco I get this message.

“Stop running this script?

A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly.
If it continues to run your computer may become unresponsive”

The program then appears to lock up. .

I have no idea of what the message refers to. Why is internet Explorer involved? I am not on line nor is there any other program running on line to the best of my knowledge

However that is not the end of the story. Returning to Train Simulator it now opens with the message

“Error in loading overlay widget file; monitor.dat”

Attempts at further progress result in “Send; Don’t Send”

It looks as of a re-install is necessary

Hi Tony,
It's probably not much help for your main problem, but according to the readme with v2.4, "this program requires IE6 or higher to work.". It is not a normal .exe file, but a .hta one.

Also, if MSTS is not in the default location, let it know where FFEDITC-unicode.exe is by clicking on "Click here if FFEDITC_UNICODE.EXE is not in the default location" - top left of the screen.

Ged,
I have a later version of IE and also have the right link in the SFM Ffeditc box.
I will do a re-install when I have the time!

Hi Tony,

I also have to install this program onto my new pc. It ran ok on my old machine with Windows XP.

This time I will be installing it onto Windows 7.

It is a very useful program which I use for positioning of Lanterns & Cab Crews

Best Regards

Apologies if this has been answered else where but has anyone managed to get it working in windows 7 64 bit?

I open the program and click 'Click here if FFEDITC_UNICODE.EXE is not in the default location' then click ok, but nothing else seems to happen. If i type in ffeditc_unicode after the command line it tells me to restart SFM, and when i reload it says it cant find it.

All i need it for at the moment is to alter the viewing distance of a couple of coaches, they lose detail when the camera is still quite close, can i manually edit any values anywhere?

Hi Kieran

Sorry I should have answered the thread.

Yes it works fine for me.

I have used it on 4 different models. It showed up shape spikes where there were faults and fixed where necessary.

Hi Mick,

Thanks for the reply,

Sadly had no luck being able to edit it normally so had to copy the files i wanted to edit into my documents then find it manually on SFM then copy them back after i had done the editing.

Hi Kieran,
I have found that copying the Shape File Manager file (sfm.hta) into the UTILS folder (within the Train Simulator folder) seems to solve the problems I had with it not working. :) You can create a shortcut to it on the Desktop to avoid having to find the folder everytime.

If you are using Vista or Win 7 and if Train Simulator is within Program Files / Program Files(86), then the permissions must be correctly set.

Thanks Ged,

That worked a treat!

Far better than copying and pasting files to and fro.

It is an excellent utility for msts even though i've only ever made use of the distant value tool.

Cheers again,

That's actually a specific recommendation in the "Download and Installation" section for SFM (http://msts.steam4me.net/utilities/shap ... l#download).
