Opinions and input please

Post by styckx »

This is posted in the WIP screenshots thread, but I know not everyone ventures there and want more broad input.

Video speaks for itself, I've dumped a lot of time in figuring out how to finally achieve this in game without using 10meg WAV file. (if anyone ever looked, there is one of those in the game that was abandoned). Cloud textures are mine and this is not using the APH Light Pack. Everything is a WIP.

I plan on phasing out the default rain, but I'm looking for feedback, maybe some suggestions for other samples to call randomly. It's all in the imagination and quite achievable. Not just for thunderstorms, for any weather pattern. I've gone this far so I don't plan to stick to just thunderstorms. :)

Hi Bill, very nice - good atmosphere, clouds, sounds and general ambience. The only question about the thunder would be how much it would loop?

There are really good alternative environments for MSTS, some with excellent thunderstorms, but after half an hour of non stop thunder you start to wonder if the end of the world has arrived 8) . Can the thunder work in a manner that would match dynamic weather (for example similar to the rain starting and stopping in EU_Heavy Storm). Mainly talking about the sound of the thunder, coming and going over an extended period.

Very impressed by the feeling it gives (also by your athletic prowess in jumping over that fence :D )

Exceptionally Beautiful Sky, Styckx!! :o Great job!

I cant think of what you could add, other than the occasional gust of wind sound that one would hear through the telephone wires, maybe?

Really liking your stormy look!

Wind in wires/trees/etc for sure.. gently though, that's easy to make sound like a loop and get supremely annoying :P. Other than that most sounds aren't really weather but more ambient and should be put in routes. Those clouds are awesome! how's it cope with changing light?

Can you do weather effects for certain cameras only? I'm thinking of rain hitting windscreen/bodywork.

I've been playing too much left 4 dead, I kept expecting zombies in your video :P
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

Funny that you should say that about L4D, Kariban. With those skys, I was thinking along the lines of Oblivion or Tomb Raider
I like your windscreen/wind/rain concept as well. It would definitely add well to Styckx's scene.

Hi,

Very good sound and visual effects, is there any chance you might be able to have the odd Flash of lightening?
Perhaps even some Fork lightening?

Fantastic work there. I did wonder when the Doors were going to kick in with "Riders on the Storm" though

Hello Bill,

It sounds, and looks very impressive indeed. (Any chance of a nice supercell?)...

Kariban has got it right. Including non-weather sounds in the weather could cause more problems than it fixes. Far better to have that sort of sound associated with trees and other objects, and 'activated' by picking up some kind of value from the weather setting selected in the scenario editor so there's no creaking trees on sunny days.
