Playing a new Scenario without 'payware' stock

Playing a new Scenario without 'payware' stock
When I played Rail Simulator, I remember there was a piece of software which identified locos and wagons needed to play a scenario and if you did not have them you could change them to ones you did have and still play the scenario. I am now giving Railworks 2 a go, but am unhappy that I cannot play any new scenarios because they all include 'payware'. I have already paid for Class 31, 56 and 37 add ons, but if there is something I don't have then I can't play it, without paying out more money. Is there not a way of replacing 'stock' in Railworks so that you can play new scenarios or am I resigned to either paying out more or sticking with the 'default' scenarios.
Thanks Kevin.

You need RW Tools which despite the URL link title is on this link. It is not freeware but worth the small amount it costs.

Thanks for your help. I have downloaded RW Tools. Do I also need to download RW Tools2178 ? Is there an idiots guide on how to use RW Tools as I have no idea once installed what to do or how to populate the screens. It looks very complicated. Thanks Kevin.

Hi rushdenx1,
Have you had a read of the Manual for RWTools which explains how to set up and operate RWTools?
You will find it under the "Help" tab, click on "Contents".
Or:

Re: Playing a new Scenario without 'payware' stock
Thanks again. But I still need some guidance. I have downloaded a scenario 'Cold run morning shift' for the Hedborough North route. I now want to know what 'stock' I don't have and how to change it for stuff I do have.
I assume I need to press on 'scenarios' in RW Tools, but then I'm stuck. View Rolling stock list says I have not generated an index.csv file. Edit Scenario comes up with a list of routes and scenarios, so I click on the scenario in question, but then what. Any help is appreciated. Kevin

Re: Playing a new Scenario without 'payware' stock
Hi, easiest way to find out what's in it, is to use the check routes or scenarios option, which is in the route building tools tab. There is no shortcut to reading the manual though. This is a very powerful tool and using it without some idea of what you want it to do will end in tears. Spend some time reading the manual & it will save you a lot of head scratching time later!
Re: Playing a new Scenario without 'payware' stock
Thanks again. I have now identified the one item which is missing 'htacoalhopper'. I have looked at the manual, but still cannot see what I need to do to change the missing item for something else. I am sorry for my obvious ignorance, but once I know how to do it once, I won't have to bother any of you again. Thanks Kevin.

Re: Playing a new Scenario without 'payware' stock
Right, now you know what's missing - create an index file by clicking the edit assets tab. Look in here & there is a `save stock index` button - BEFORE you click this you need to check the `rolling Stock only` box and make sure that the Assets folder is highlighted, then click the `add to list` button - it can take some time if you have a lot of addons - RWTools will ask you if you have done this before it continues. When it has been created you can go into the scenario tab & edit your scenario from there & call up the index file to select similar stock.
NOTE if you add or remove stock from your installation you will have to recreate the index file again so it is up to date.

Re: Playing a new Scenario without 'payware' stock
The way I replace stock items I don't have is as follows:
In RW Tools, go into Scenarios > Edit scenarios
You will then see a list of routes, click the route you want
You will then see another list of scenarios under that route, click on the scenario you want to edit
(going from memory here as at work!) I think you then click an icon that says edit selected scenario or something similar?
There is then a hefty delay while RW Tools loads all the train and stock details for that scenario
A new window opens and shows a list of all train services in that scenario (1E55 for example).
Click on any of the services and another list shows up all the stock associated with that service train.
You will get a message at this point if you are missing any items.
Once you know what you're missing make sure you have clicked on / selected the missing item from the list.
Then over to the right you can choose alternative stock items by navigating to the relevant folder which are all filed under the creators names, then click find stock button.
Once you've found a suitable replacement make sure you click on it to select it (you should then have a missing stock item selected on the left and a replacement selected on the right).
Then in the middle of the screen are several buttons you can either select "replace selected items" or "replace all identical"
Do the same for all the train services shown
Click Save
Job done.
