Hi All,
What's the closest RW2 can get to dyanmic freight loading?
What I mean is similar to Trainz, where you drive under the coal distributor and it automatically fills the hoppers with coal.

It pretty much does the same, you just drive under the loader and press T. However, it cannot be done at slow speed, you need to stop for every wagon.

Yeah, all the same principle and they can be unloaded too, at least coal definetely can.

Its one of my wishes that RSC would come up with a dynamic loading system so we can run merry go rounds

I agree, it's a real pain to load or unload a whole rake of HAA or HTA hoppers, to the point that I'd rather watch paint dry than stop and start a heavy train 36 times. One would assume that, if the underlying code was intelligently designed by Kuju, it would simply be a case of changing a parameter somewhere that defines the minimum speed at which loading or unloading can occur for the different types of loader, and which is currently set to zero.Dougjuk wrote:Its one of my wishes that RSC would come up with a dynamic loading system so we can run merry go rounds
Unfortunately I don't hold Kuju in very high regard, so that's probably an assumption too far.

It shouldn't make that much of a difference though surely?
In real life 66's are fitted (i'm saying this for the novices benefit, i'm sure you know this...) with a slow speed limiter, meaning the loco can propel/pull at a steady half mph. So it's going to take you a long time to load a full coal train whichever way you look at it...

Yes, but there's a big difference between setting up at 0.5mph and then sitting back and waiting for the job to finish, and creeping forward at 0.5mph and then stopping accurately a couple of dozen times. The latter really does get old fast, to the point where you end up writing scenarios which just let you drive over the unloading point at 0.5mph instead of requiring an actual unloading (which is what IHH did for the 56 pack).
Container trains are not loaded or unloaded on the move anyway. Instead, the whole train is parked in a siding and a crane or a forklift runs up and down it to move containers around. Meanwhile the locomotive goes and does something else.
