Bristol - Exeter Challenge

Post by rhysicus1989 »

Hi guys. Im running a challenge on my youtube and website, Im not sure if this type of thing is everyones cup of tea, but just thought id see if anyone was interested. (There's no prize by the way).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1iOtL7l ... e=bulletin

The Gauntlet has been thrown down. I have issued you with a challenge. You may choose 1, or 2 steam engines, and take 14 Mark 1 coaches from Bristol Temple meads to Exeter St David s. You can choose any engines you like, as long as they are steam, and you can only have a maximum of 2 of them.

You must Make a video entry of your run, showing in that video, what time you have set off, and what time you arrive at Exeter St Davids. Your video must include a clip once every 10 minutes of your run, showing the local time using the F3 Drivers Aid button.

If you wish to enter, Email my youtube channel with a link to your video, your name and what locomotive you used, and I shall decide where you come on the drivers challenge board.

Rules:
Dont Crash.
Please dont cheat (Ruins the point of the challenge, there is no Prize by the way)
Your train MUST consist of 14 Mark 1 coaches. if you decide to use a continental or American locomotive, you need to select the override coupling control in the options menu, so you can couple up to the coaches.

Lastly, PLEASE Include a video clip CLEARLY SHOWING how many coaches you have on your train. Failure to do this, will result in your entry being disqualified! So please do it!

So the aim of this challenge, Get from Bristol - Exeter AS FAST AS YOU CAN! HAVE FUN!!!

If you wanted to make it a real challenge you'd demand everyone use a pair of Falmouth Panniers ;)

Sounds like fun, if only I had B&E! it turns the wrong way at Cogload...
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

just had a quick go.

14 DT mk1s from LP pack.

A4 at front, Southern LP behind.

top speed was nearing exeter about 102.5ish.

total time was 51mins and 30s-ish, though i did stop a little short for most passengers! lol. So there's a guide time to get started with. didn't make a video so doesn't count in the challenge.
Currently recreating Salisbury to Exeter 50s/60s.
almost all yard, trackwork, scenery and signalling complete salisbury - wilton. Trackwork 2013 standard to Gillingham, Older beyond. - Abandoned due to newer tools in subsequent TS versions.

You know what.. I like this Challenge. Tell ya what. If this gets off the ground, and if people send in an entry, I will contribute a prize of a DLC purchase of their choice to the winner. (Steam only) If there is only one entry, they win by default.

I know what would win 2 kings they used to storm it in BR and GWR days so they can do it now, but only if I had the Bristol-Exeter. Oh and by the way B-E is in modern times so the loading gauge for a single engine would be too high so it would have to be a 9F. A single king could take 13 but not 14. It doesn't matter really. I would want to stop at taunton for a pasty from Greggs and a diet coke, oh I almost forgot some white chocolate fingers from morrisons.

Yeah man, I know, this challenge isnt really anything to do with being realistic, its just a simple, Get A-B as quick as you can. Its All about Speed, How good you are at handling steam and your steam management, its a real good test actually.

The plan is to do a score board like in top gear, with the drivers name and lap times posted. Im hoping this challenge gets off the ground, its going to last several months, in fact, its more infinite, theres no time limit, just set your record like.
