Bristol - Exeter problem

Post by Austcoop »

Hi all,

I seem to have developed a strange problem with the Bristol to Exeter route. It started last week when RW suddenly decided to throw up the dreaded SBHH message whilst loading. The game would start, get to the first loading screen with the picture of the HST then the SBHH would appear, causing the game to crash. Only be trial and error did i work out that it was the Bristol to Exeter route. I uninstalled and hey presto, the game works fine.

I verified the game cache, uninstalled and reinstalled RW and then tried installing the route again. Same thing occurred. I then installed and ran through RW tools, which said the Bristol -Exeter route was missing an absolute shed load of terrain decals. 146 to be precise!?! I have changed nothing in the route, which is totally baffling me. Does anyone have any ideas what may have happened and how to resolve it?

Thanks, James

The decals are not missing, they are just referenced and cause no harm whatsoever.

As for the problem, not entirely sure.

Sound like the routeproperties.xml is broken.

Have you tried re-installing Bristol to Exeter. It's not a 'Steam' route so any route specific problem will normally be unaffected by Steam's activities.

Thanks for the quick replies chaps.

Yes, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the route. Its driving me crackers! I just can't work out why it has suddenly stopped working all of a sudden. The install doesn't throw up any error messages and it loads to the just trains file in RW.

By any chance, when you installed it, did you delete the JustTrains files relevant to B-E from the Content folder? The installation might not be over writing the files properly

Hi, no i didn't, but when i checked after uninstall, all that was left were the scenarios, nothing else. Checking on reinstall, everything appears to be there, but it just won't work. I may have to uninstall all the scenarios too.

This was what I was going to recommend. After uninstalling open up explorer and make sure the b-e folder is completly gone. Could be a rogue file or two in there that isn't part of the default install throwing the route into a hissy fit. Could be something as silly as a saved game.

Well, that solved it! I can only assume it was a corrupted save game file. Thanks for the advice, but what a pain in the rear. Had to completely delete the B to E file, uninstall all the scenarios i'd downloaded for it and start again. Bummer, but it works now!!

You could have just removed the scenarios, and then put them back one by one until you found the faulty scenario.

These sort of incidents are usually caused by something you have recently installed, or by a corrupted file. I can't see anywhere that you mentioned you had been installing downloads - if you had, I'm sure someone would have suggested that you removed them before you tried uninstalling the route.

My railway photos are now on Google + - links to the albums are in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 9&t=149558

Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

Alan,

That was the whole point. The route was purchased on the day of release and the only add ons were the AP scenario packs. Everything was working normally until one night last week when it suddenly threw a fit and stopped working. As it had been installed and been left alone for the best part of three or four weeks, it only made it more bizarre and difficult to work out what had gone wrong. Had I just installed something, that would have naturally been my first port of call. But I hadn't, which is why it stumped me.
