Files not found on install
Hi again folks
Having had some success over the past week with installing routes I have come across the same problem with 2 routes and wonder if anyone can help.
I tried loading the District route and on ran the install file when copying the files it runs through them all but says files not found rather than copying . Like the North Glasgow electric route the route appears in the list of train store routes but on starting I get unable to initilize world error.
I tried to run north Glasgow route installer and got the same file not found errors.
I am using train store and ran unstore everything before starting the route installs and all default routes are installed .And all origional routes are set to share with everyone .
Thanks Stewart

Hi Stewart,
From your description, which is rather vague, it's possible that this is a global Tsection problem.
Sometimes, more notably with routes from discs, an older global TSection overwrites the one you have there in the Globals folder.
I would suggest that you check which Global TSection you have operating at present. It should be V41. This is available from the MSTS hotpicks selection on the UKTS home page, if you find that you have actually overwritten V41 with a previous version.
If you have an older route which needs an older Tsection version , you can configure MSTS to run with the required version using Trainstore. Full instructions for this are in the manual.
You do not say where you are sourcing your installation files from. I would hazard a guess at these being downloads, and this method can be a problem if the download zips get corrupted.
You must have all six default routes present for the installation batch files to operate correctly, otherwise you will get 'file not found'.
Hope this is of use,
Regards,
Steve

Re: Files not found on install
Hi Stewart
Have you got Route Riter.
If so use it to check a route .... and it will tell you what files are missing.
It will also offer to copy those files if they are on your PC.
Hopefully you'll only end up with a couple missing.... and then you can post them for help.
Cheers

Re: Files not found on install
I will try and explain again , bear with me as I'm just learning MSTS.
I have downloaded the files for the district line and unziped them to my routes file . I then go into the district files and find the install me file and run that as administrator. A widow opens and runs through the files that it is copying from the default routes .
Instead of copying as it run through the files it is looking for ,it either says file not found or access denied. It runs through all the files and then closes as normal
As I am using windows 7 Prior to carrying out these actions I have made sure all the routes files are available to share with everyone in the security setting.
As I am using train store I have run the unstore everything before running the installme bat file.
When I open Train store the routes are there but when train store then starts MSTS, and you try and run the route it gives "unable to intilize "World/sky errors.
It would appear that running the insatll me bat file is not copying across the files it needs.
It may be a windows 7 security setting problem rather than a MSTS problem with the install phase.
I have checked the tsection settings and they are ok , and other routes run fine with no problems.
Hope this further info helps . Thanks in advance for any help you can offer

Re: Files not found on install
Try right clicking on installme.bat and running as admin,
and disabling UAC on you security settings prior to doing above, just remember to put UAC back after.
I have to do that every now and then.

I've got windows 7 and I find if I run the install bat as administrator it doesn't install properly, but if I just click on the instal bat then it runs properly. How I wish I still had XP Vista and 7 can be a right pain in the a--e with this administrator rights.

Hi
To disable UAC go to control panel then click on user accounts, then select change User Account Control settings, slide it all the way down to never notify. click ok.
All done.
Remember to set it back just in case. (although I haven't bothered)

Hi Barry,
Like you, I have UAC permanently switched off - couldn't get on with the constant prompting!
As long as you have effective anti-virus/anti-malware software running there shouldn't be any problems, especially if you are the only user of the PC.
UAC will not stop it, only 'reduce the effects of malware' - whatever that might mean - to quote Microsoft!
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged
I feel its the only way to go with windows 7, but as you say good anti-virus and anti-spyware software is a must. With regular updates and scanning all should be good.
As for microsofts quote well I'l make no comment on that except that I'm a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and I've turned it off as it is a right pain!!
Stewart I'm going to install it and see if any problems jump at me.

Ok Stewart
All installed on windows 7 with all acts and stock items including all updates, its all working ok. Just a thought but have you installed xtracks and new roads? as it requires both of these to run.

Re: Files not found on install
I have xtracks and new road installed. As I had tried running the install file on the district lina as administrator and it did not work , I thought what the hell and just ran it and it installed all the files and the district line now works fine to explore route but not to run activities. . I tried doing the same with The North Glasgow electric route but Neither worked there. A 50% success rate is not too bad. LOL
Re: Files not found on install
Hi Stewart,
You certainly have had a baffling time with this particular installation. I recall having these kinds of problems a couple of years ago with Vista and later Win7, so much so that to fix the problem, I installed
MSTS on a seperate volume and changed all the permissions. This tended to work better, but eventually to avoid all of the problems I retrograded to XP Pro to run all my old 32 bit programs and sims which seemed to clash with 64 bit requirements. For me, peace of mind, and I have pity for newcomers to computing who have to go through the hoops to discover all of these problems and their solutions.
Regards,
Steve

Re: Files not found on install
Yes, UAC only protects system files, lulling end-users into a false sense of security: it doesn't stop your email client sending out emails offering to make everyone in your address book hung like an Italian stallion. I'd rather re-install the OS than have to deal with the consequences of a virus attack or data loss.blackcab94 wrote:As for Microsoft's quote, well I'll make no comment on that except that I'm a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and I've turned UAC off as it is a right pain!!
However, I've found since installing TweakUAC (suggested by Doug Kightley) and setting it to "quiet mode", I've not had any issues with file access (though I do maintain you should never install MSTS to a folder inside c:\Program Files).
"Train World Initialization Failed" means that either
1. Textured Skies option is unchecked; and/or
2. The env files haven't copied over. Copy them from your template folder.
There's also a "gotcha" in the way Route Riter prepares routes for distribution: if it finds existing files (usually the aforementioned env files) in the Template folder, it adds lines to the installme.bat to copy these files into your installed route. The problem arises when people delete the Template (and Tutorial) folder because they think they'll never need them: they then get TWIF errors.

Re: Files not found on install
Thanks guys. I have the skies option checked . what are env files , where do I find them and where do I copy them to.
Note all other routes I have now working it is only this one route that is not. I think it may be worth going with what I have for the moment.
